DIY: "Raptor" Style Lights

I did this mod the other day, still trying to solve my wiring gremlins, not very good at wiring. Sometimes they all work, sometimes the ones on the right don't work, and more recently the one to the left of the Toyota badge won't work, I did 4 lights all together, going to get creative with wiring tonight to try to connect them all once and for all and be sturdy and work all the time.

 

When I wired mine originally I wired all 4 positive wires together and ran spliced them into the parking light wire, tied all 4 ground wires together and ran to the ground wire behind the battery. Make sure to get a good solder on all the connected wires. If you run them to the DTRL they will turn off when you turn the head lights on. I have sense rewired mine to the DTRL's with a 3amp rectifier diode in between the wires so they blink with the turn signals and flash when I lock/unlock the truck. I then tied them into the parking lights with another 3am diode to work when the head lights are on. I did the same thing on both sides so the two flash with the right side turn signal and two flash with the left side. It is more wiring but the end result was worth it to me.

Just need to find an easy way to access that lower valence to drill the 4 holes. Hoping to do it w/out removing grill.

 

The best and easiest way I found was to remove the grill, even with the grill out and everything taken apart it is still kind of a pain. Also when you tighten the bolt keep in mind there is a allen head on the light it self makes it easier to get all snugged up.

 

I was hoping to tackle it from under my truck by removing the skid plate. The lights arrived today and I saw that allen head. They are much heavier duty than I thought.

 

I didn't notice the Allen head until AFTER I got pissed and just used silicone to secure them in. I don't know how long they will hold but I hope they will, there is a lot of silicone in there.

When I got mine I spent a few days doing research on them all. I went with the ones from Oznium I am very happy with them they blend in with grill even in the day time when they are off. They are very bright for their size. I love mine its one of my favorite mods I have done. I hope this helps out a little

 

I would go with the brightest(most lumens), 60 degree beam angle(because you wont be able to see these from the side anyway), side view bolt LED.

Waaaay too many options for me though. I'm glad I just lit up the whole grille.

 

ok everyone, I think I've decided on the Oznium 11mm flush mount 1W amber LED in black housing. But I have a question for all you experts. I cant decide whether I am going to mount them on my 2013 OEM grill facing down or out. And I cant decide whether to get these with lens (60 degree light disperse) or no lens (180 degree). What are the advantages/disadvantages of both? Will the lens or no lens dictate whether I am going to mount them facing down or out? Thanks in advance.

Finally got around to doing my raptor grill and LEDs. Came out pretty sick.

 

Dam! bloodied knuckles on a raptor light mod. Don't ever drop a tranny. You might lose a hand. Lol

 

Finally got mine wired. Add a fuse to the headlight low beam circuit.
