My parents were awesome about living at home during college, then I graduated and was kinda requested to stay home to help take care of my Dad. So I lived at home for a loooooonnnnggggggg time.

I wouldn't say dead end, I went to college and worked in the trades, it helped me get where I am today.
Future? It's already started, maybe not certain trades yet, but they are hurting for what I'm training people in. Don't want to say publicly. Problem is every student has been brainwashed into thinking of they don't get a 4 year degree they're going to fail at life. It's hard getting them to understand that's not the case and even harder, the parents.

Yes, when you add in housing. It's actually only $22,500 a year at the state school, $33,000 at the private school that specializes in what he wants to do. He's in a community college now squeezing out all the general requirements he can get to save $$.

It's fucking nuts. I used to spend $800 a semester back in '87, and that included books. Housing was $3500 a year.

The worst part is that a good majority of schools now require freshmen to live on campus too!

I'm saving thousands on rent/food by living off campus it's ridiculous

Requirement? What if you happen to live 10 minutes away from the school?

There's exceptions for people who live with family nearby but for any out of state students or students from further away in the state they're required to live on campus.

That's what I did. Squatted at home, and worked to afford tuition, gas, and maybe a girlfriend. Had to live within 25 miles of the school. They couldn't force freshmen to live on campus because the dorms only housed about 2200 total. There were off-campus apartments that were run like dorms but not affiliated with the school that were popular.

Thank God they fixed the GI Bill. When I joined in 1989 it was $12,500 total, and they realized you couldn't even go to a technical college for that.

I'm actually for the whole freshmen living on campus. Or at least for out of state kids. Living in the dorms helped me make better, longer, and stronger friendships. But, I also dropped out of college and started a trade career. College isn't for everyone.
