reciever hitch and wiring ????

I have a 2016 SR 4cyl , 5 speed ,4wd and need a hitch and wiring to pull a 200lbs. sailboat. There is an empty plug in the left frame rail, is it for tail lights? What hitch and wiring does anyone prefer? Ive search so many threads and come up with nothing.

 

If its like my 2015 I bought the 4 plug wiring kit from Toyota. There was NO kit available with trailer brakes from factory. The Toyota kit is perfect fit and it does take some work.

 

He doesn't need trailer brakes if he's only towing a 200lb sailboat

 

I have your solution, I ordered three things and made the wiring on mine look like oem!

1. The hitch and 4 pin wiring harness to plug into the tail lights

2. 4/7 pin wiring plug

So first you want to install the curt hitch to the bumper then from behind the bumper you pop out the blank holder for the oem hitch plug and pop the new one you bought right into the same place as the blank was in. Then you cut the 4 pin plug off of the wiring harness that came with your hitch and connect those 4 colored wires to your 4/7 pin connector and you will leave the last 3 out cause they are for a brake controller which you don't need!
Now as of 2016 curt is requiring you to get a different source of 12v power for the trialer harness other than the tail lights like previous years. You are required to run a wire from the rear light to the battery or a 12v source. I ran mine right onto the fuse box and put a add a Fuse right into the trialer light Fuse!

Thanks, Nice clean install Moe. It is 200lbs two hundred. Max.plus trailer weight of 300 or less. The 4 cyl would cry with 2000 lbs

 

I bought the Drawtite hitch and Curt wiring harness from etrailer.com. Installation was straight forward.

Nah, my 2.7 handled 2000 no problem. The Curt wiring harness is really easy to install, too.

 

Thanks for the replies. I got the Curt hitch and wiring. I installed both, and everything works.It took me about 3.5 hours , routed wires in plastic loom, dropped a bolt covered with antiseize down my shirt. Ready to go sailing tho.
