I got a new battery today. The old one lasted 1 year 8 months. It was replaced under warranty.

How long have your factory batteries lasted?

What's the purpose? Obviously to stiffen up the bed, but why?

With adding a cap or added weight to the top it can spread the bed, which will make it so the back gate either has a hard time latching or won't latch at all.

Rear sheet metal channels crack over time. Reinforce factory rear bed channels at the tail gate that are known to tear with added camper shell weight, bed racks and off road use

Talking with Pat Hanson from Total Chaos, this is what he told me:

"We prototyped these on the Brown Derby truck due to the rear channel breaking apart which led to the actual metal bedsides cracking and eventually the taillights popping out. All he had in the back was a Snugtop campershell, not even a roof rack or tent, although the truck was put through its paces for sure. The new channel was about $400 from Toyota, plus a day’s time to remove and replace, then weld up the cracks in the sheet metal and epoxy back together the taillights. Check out the attached pics of the repaired cracks in the actual sheet metal bedside.

The tie-down aspect is the part I have found really useful. It is nice to have a tie-down point half way up the height of the bed for securing gear like a cooler to the tailgate. The straps is held halfway up the cooler vs slipping down towards the bottom is all you had were the stock tie-down points that are on the floor."

This is true. I haven't gotten there and don't want to, so I purchased this kit.

    Need more...
image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg Alright guys this is going to sound stupid but I'm a brand new Tacoma owner and don't know a lot about mechanics to a truck so hoping a few could enlighten me. I just ordered a 2 inch leveling kit from rough country to put on my truck mostly for the looks of the frond end be leveled with the back, but anyways I was under my truck and saw these bilstein shocks. What I want to know is are these aftermarket, because I wasn't informed about these. Also don't these come with like a lift and if not can I still put on my leveling kit I want to bring my front end up two inches? They are on the front and back of my truck to. Any replies would be awesome, thanks guys!

You can use your leveling kit. I'm pretty sure those are stock shocks

Those are 'Stock' Bilstein Shocks, 4600 series I believe, that are part of the TRD Off Road Package. The word Toyota is right there on the shock in the picture.

ETA: You can use the Rough Country leveling kit.

I only have a softopper but it is the offroading with a long bed that made me get one.

For those of you that responded after NazLax posted this, asking where he got them from... any of you really interested in it, and possibly hitting up Camelback to see if they'll throw us a bit of a discount for all this if a few of us go in on it?! I'd be up for it if we could get some $$ off.
