Possible leak ???

You know how when you run your AC during the summer and you park there is always some water "leaking" from the compessor. Well I have always noticed this "leak" every time i drive my truck (2009 / 4wd) when I park it. It is coming from the passenger side someplace between the engin and the front seat. Yeah I know that is a vauge discription but is it normal? Is is just a part of the cooling system letting off some steam?? It happens when it is hot, warm, cold, and freezing.

Does everyones truck do this???

 

It's normal. All A/C systems have a drain tube that leaks water. So you use your A/C when it's freezing ?

 

ide say its not normal.mine doesnt do it.ONLY when the ac is on.

 

Sorry I must have misunderstood the OP, it should only leak if you're using the A/C.

 

Yeah...Leaking while the AC is on makes sense- The AC uses a CONDENSER which means some water will drip out. If it does it all the time...some thing is wrong (Unless you run the AC all the time)

ac comes on when you run defrost it doesn't indicate though

 

Can you determine what the fluid is? Stick your finger in it and smell it.

If it doesn't smell like anything - and it could just be water.

The only other thing I'm thinking it could be, is radiator fluid. That'll be pink, be somewhat slippery in your fingers....

 

It's water caused by condensation. The accumulator is cold, the air around it is warm, therefore condensation forms and it drips on the ground. Nothing to worry about unless the fluid is something other than water.

That was my point. To make sure the OP knows for sure its water and not something else.

it is clear liquid (water like) and I typically do run the defrost most of the time on low to keep the windows clear and warm up a little. Not using the AC right now. There is a drip 100% of the time when I park my car after driving for 5 minutes or more. All my fluid levels are fine so I figured it was condensation from the comperessor or something but I get it even when no AC is used??????.

 

maybe these pics will help. I was driving around for 20 mins and the truck has been parked for maybe 10mins. I did not taste the liquid but it is clear and feels like water.

It is coming from an area under the frame and I cant see it...the dark line is the water dripping down the frame

 

that frame pic looks alittle far back to b from the ac line.mine drips down(when ac is in use)from the rear of the pass. side fender well.maybe they re routed the line further back on the newer ones???

 

^^Mine drips and runs along the frame similar to the OP's.

 

Running the defroster does engage the A/C system to lower humidity which will cause condensation.

I'd recommend extending you AC drain line to keep water off your frame but other than that it looks normal.
