    nothing cool
Similar story to OP but with my 98 Cobra. When I lived in my apartment years ago they had to spray paint the new parking lines. They didn't send out a notification or anything either. So many cars, including my Cobra, got yellow spray paint mist on their wheels and tires.
That car was my baby. I noticed it immediately and complained. They tried to tell me that I must have been parked over or too close to the parking lines. Long story short they did pay for my car to be detailed ($300) and that's all I really asked for.

I wasn't going to sue them for thousands of $$$. I just wanted them to admit and pay for their mistake. The CRAZY part was that nobody else in my apartment complex filed a complaint for the longest time until I pointed out their wheels to them. I guess other people don't look at their vehicles very closely.

I got hit in a parking lot 2 yrs ago. The other driver stopped but wouldn't get out and speak to me. I called the police. The cop who showed up said "we don't get involved in this, it is not our job". REALLY?

I looked right at him and said "first of all, this mother...... wouldn't give me his information after bashing in the side of my truck so please advise me what I should do in the future if it happens again. Second of all, I have always been taught call the police in this case always so there's no lying after the fact. Most of all..this IS your job..to serve the citizens when things happen..and I will call the police anytime it happens."

Some 300 pound, 12 year old line backer threw the back door of a Honda Accord open right into the side of my beautiful heads and cam GTO. Then he proceeded to jump in the car like an untamed guerrilla causing the door to slide up and down on my rear fender. I lost it on this "kid" because I genuinely thought he was a full grown adult. Come to find out, he was on a "field trip" with the principal in her personal car. The school system would not do anything about it and her insurance company sent me to the school system.

This was 100% personal responsibility and this shitbag of an educator did everything she could to justify that because it was an "accident" and I acted in an aggressive manor, she didn't have to be responsible for it. The local PD simplified it by asking her..."did your car touch his?" her answer was "yes" and the cop said, "that's all I need to know."

    yes. have a few comments.

    1. don't want to get bit by animals, stay out of the zoo. apartments can be cesspools.
    2. smoking near a propane tank or while filling tanks doesn't bother me. been instructed by the propane company that this is OK. seen it done hundreds of times.
    3. paint that wipes off has cured in the air. this is referred to as dry-spray or dry-fall. Depending on the spray set up, the paint atomizes and cures while floating in the air. very common with acrylics. not common with urethanes.
    4. when someone parks like shit i will park as close as possible to them. don't care about my truck.
    5. try painting a water tank and accidentally painting 100 brand new cars 100 ft below you. detailers advertise in industrial paint magazines for a reason.

After getting the paperwork I politely informed the officer that being told it isn't his job is when people take matters into their own hands, which is not productive..and had I done that with this ignorant douchebag who hit my truck they'd need a medflight for his carcass.

Seeing all of the people here that talk about being physically violent because of car wrecks has me thinking that locking myself in my vehicle until police arrive isn't such a bad choice.

I agree that didn't come off right. After he hit me, he proceeded to the end of the line of spaces..I was still in my space when he struck me because he wasn't looking.

He parked and I parked a few feet to his right..prepared my paperwork, exited my vehicle and stood in front of it.

After 2 minutes he hadn't acknowledged me at all. I walked over to the middle between the 2 vehicles at which point he looked up, saw me, and turned his head just staring out the window. A couple of minutes later I politely said "sir, you need to exchange paperwork here and mine is ready" He flipped me off without looking.

Was that a polite way to handle it especially at his fault?

Absolutely it was. A lot of these idiots on the road have such an ego that when their delicate, false sense of super heroism is compromised, they turn into crying little bitches and all of a sudden the world is out to get them.....leading to denial of personal responsibility/ accountability. I encounter this every single day while riding a motorcycle.

One police department has recommended staying in the vehicle with doors locked in fender benders, because of intentional carjackings:

And hence why I stated it wouldn't have ended well without police assistance since that was how he was handling it.

The best person I've ever dealt with like this was a 19 yr old girl..shaking and crying but apologized and owned it profusely. Fortunately it was a small scratch you couldn't even see but she was terrified as a new driver, to the point I had to give her a hug to calm her down..and not b/c I had been a douche either

Some of these stories are great. Hearing stories like these make me realize why I no longer drive nice cars. I have always had such bad luck with my cars getting damages by idiots regardless how cautious I was. I think I learned my lesson when I parked my brand new 75k car in the back of a parking lot and I come out to find 2 carts smashed against the car. After 1500 dollars of repairs It sucks that I often have to decide if I can take my car somewhere or not. I like the idea of installing cameras to monitor your vehicle.

But I thought there was all kinds of EPA crap to prevent fumes from damaging the carbon ozone layer or something. Should be perfectly safe.

I saw a guy doing this while filling a small gas can. A lady and her daughter passed by within 15 feet and they did not even recognize what he was doing. I was parked 100 feet away and I noticed.

It is unbelievable how unaware people are of their surroundings.

This works both ways. I can't tell you how many times I am pressure washing spilled coffee and dairy drinks, moss and algae, chewing gum, dirt, piss and vomit, etc. - the filth people leave behind in their daily wake, and the surrounding area is clearly wet and someone pulls up in an empty parking lot and parks their new [insert car here] right under my nose.

Obviously I'm there cleaning, I'm spraying a gallon of water out at 3500 PSI every 15 seconds and they might sit in the car for a minute getting their belongings together while I'm cleaning the sidewalk directly in front of them, as I have been for the last several hours. Then they get mad that their car gets wet!

    No shit? Imagine that!
