We average around 60-70 calls out of my station a month. As of last night we were at 1955 calls for the year between 4 trucks. :D

I did my time in the city running my butt off. I enjoy the rural 911 setting now and being able to treat patients and seeing what you do work instead of being 8 minutes from the hospital. Our average transport is about 30 minutes.

I'll agree also. So now you have 6 cents to work with.

As of today we are at just over 90k for the year.. usually average 120k or more for the year with 24 trucks. I enjoyed the rural scene for a while but in nashville no matter where you are longest you will have is around 15mins... we have 7 major hospitals in the city. 3 of those are level 1 or 2 trauma centers and the rest are level 3. Rural was good.. just not good pay. They where around 16 an hour and did 24hr shifts..

We only have a level 2 down here. Closest level one is Grady in ATL. We usually fly them if they need to go there. Columbus only has 2 hospitals now. There's a 3rd but it's military only. We're the second highest paid in the region. We're 24/48 here.

Yea used to do 24/48 now do 4 on 4 off and do 12s instead of 24s. Yea nashville I believe is one of the top in the country for ems and fire pay, different pay scales. But on ems side emt starts at like 24 an HR and medic at 25 or 26.. so it was worth it for me to switch.

Yeah there's no way in hell you could do 24's with that kind of call volume. It's amazing how the pay scale is all over the place in this job. Even from one county to the next.

Jus to add info, I came from california to florida, I was making close to 50K in the EMS and here they start at 25K. And its amazing how the medicine changes from state to state, i thought I was in the wild wild west in cali... but florida lol this is a different beast.. I honestly think 85% of the fire/ems is burned out.... anyone have any insight from a long term perspective?

I'm in at 15yr in central Florida, average 9-15 calls a day out of my station, was on a box now I ride right seat on an engine for last 8 so it's different, I still love it and wouldn't work any were else. It all depends where you are, Ems only is tough combined is better. Don't think there is a perfect system all have there issues, but it is what you can do in that 24 hr period for your crew that makes it worth it.
    Keep the faith

yeah, I hear you, I always try coming in to work thinking ill make at least a small difference, even if its to just give some advice or a different perspective. but some EMS/firefighters feel that it was there god given right to right on a big shiny tonka toy that they dont care about their patients or community when you have kids coming out of the academy and schools being turned down, im assuming thats everywhere in the EMS world?

cost of living adjustment . also there isn't any money in the private ambulance sector. Try applying to collier county, they start you off part time, but when you make it full time you get bumped up to around 50k

thats pretty damn good money, if you're working the 2480 hours work year...

Lol I wasn't complaining bout our pay.. it's worth running your balls off. Good pay with yearly step raises and pension, union, you name it. Same problems everywhere else has but has more benefits than any negatives

    Same as everybody else...
I've been going to PT twice a week for the last 3 weeks, also doing stretches 3 times a day. It has made a huge difference with the pain. Now it's primarily in the ankle and butt cheek not the entire leg, pain is also about a 3 as opposed to a 8-9. Most of the pain is in the morning and disappears by mid morning. Thanks everybody for the advice to seek PT, I'm almost pain free for the first time since July.
