Posting this here as well for those that are looking to a field expedient way to fix broken valve stem issues.

I've never gotten into a crowd funding project until the first one recently for a friend, but I think this will be my first product based one. Some may have issues with it due to TPMS sensors that may interfere, but in my case with the Hutchinsons I know it won't be an issue.

 

While at the ATR event last weekend a vendor had these disposable heat blankets that I thought were interesting. They are past their "use by" date so they were really cheap. I grabbed a couple to test and if I'm impressed - keeping the use by date in mind - I'll invest in some new ones for our use at home and in our cars.

Do any of you have any previous experience with these and have an opinion?

 

I have never seen those before, but am very interested.

Something great to have in an emergency, assuming they work as advertised.

I am very interested to hear how they work - please let us know how your testing goes.

 

From reading the package best I could from his pic, it sounds like the blanket has pockets it it containing their version of "hothands" brand hand and foot warming pads. I can tell you from experience that they work very well. If that's the case, you could make the blanket reusable by inserting new warmers in the pockets. They're only about a $1 a pack and are easy to find.

 

Once I tear a package open and use one I'll make a point of taking a few pictures and sharing my observations. As to reusing them, I never gave it any thought before as we carry some blankets in our vehicles already.

 

For you guys with little "Get home bags" (~20 liter or slightly bigger) what do you use?
I'm looking for a replacement for mine (Cheap chinese POS), it'll hold some little things such as chem lights, MRE snacks, as well as my welding gear.
Looking for something tan, black, or multicam with MOLLE on the outside, if it has a spot for a 3L bladder that would be awesome as well.

Budget is sub $100

Any recommendations?

 

Does Arcteryx still make their "blade" series bags? Small and very discreet looking. I remember that we could put a MP5K with the stock folded, and a half dozen mags in one with room to spare.

 

I'm not sure as their website was down but it looks nice, not really for my application though.
Even though it's slightly over budget I think I'm gonna get the 5.11 rush 24.

 

Right on, I'm not into tactical looking stuff and it just so happens that Arcteryx and LBX wolf grey is a perfect match for the 2nd gen Tacoma grey interiors.

 

I'm not really "into it" either, but having MOLLE on the outside makes it really easy to attach my welding shield so it's always easy to grab.

 

I've got a 5.11 72hr that I've been using for about 3 years now. It has been great. It's my GHB always in the truck and into work with me. It's got a 3L bladder plenty of Molle and dual side compartments. I've got it very well organized for my needs. All the straps/webbing has held up to my daily use. No fraying and great zippers. I'd buy another one in a heartbeat. I'm pretty sure mine was about $150.

 

In my many years of experience, the bag is just a bag. I prefer a backpack (think 3-day pack blackhawk, London bridge etc...). A backpack is out of the way when shooting rather than a shoulder bag. In any case, as most of you already know, its what you put in the bag.

I've just got a basic LL Bean day pack for mine; I think it's 22 liters or something like that. I thought about going with a hiking pack or a tacticool molle bomb but decided I'd rather go subtle if I had to walk home. I figured a regular backpack would be more likely to blend in and less likely to draw attention than a tactical bag would.

 

Good info, poor execution. Hooking a rope to the bumper, over the (relatively) sharp edges of that hole then continually stepping over the rope made me cringe.

We used a similar setup in Boy Scouts oh so many years ago to move some projects around as part of the Pioneering badge IIRC.

 

I was thinking the same thing. Also the rope was a little light weight for vehicle recovery.

 

I found this Maxpedition Falcon Pygmy at a discounted price of 75 bucks. Happy with it so far. Holds two full size nalgene bottles on the side mesh pockets and doesn't look too tactical. I take it to work with me and my 17" laptop barely fits in the main compartment.

 

Arcteryx makes a real good pack. If I recall correctly they made the special forces pack the military uses for years.

I've bumped down to lightweight. I'm carrying a 10 liter camelbak with the bare essentials. It's civilian so fairly inconspicuous. Got ferro and mag stick, flashlight, med kit, black diamond headlamp and a nice poly tarp. Only downside is no substantial food aside from power bars.

 

I keep an Arcteryx Khard 30 in wolf grey in the Tacoma all the time. The color matches the upholstery so it doesn't draw attention like some other colors do, the window tint helps with that I'm sure. The Khard series of packs is from their LEAF - law enforcement armed forces - line and has some excellent upgrades that I'm certain the "go fast" types requested. Thinking about grabbing another on my next order.
