Sooo, while were on the topic of our 'other half'; mine is having her B - day on Sunday. She has her concealed carry permit and I told her I was going to Hoffman's to pick her up a Smith & Wesson Model 60 snub along with pink hogue grips. I got a 'no thanks' that's really a present for yourself. I suppose one could say that except no pink grips for me. In hindsight it might not be a good idea as I'd be choosing the caliber that she would pop me with. Well, I guess I have to revert back to lingerie...

Depends how you do it, honestly. I'm extremely detailed when it comes to finances and my wife isn't as detailed. We just agreed I'd handle the details and run everything by her with reasoning why and make sure she agrees. If she had a strong opinion one way and I had a strong opinion the other, I suppose that would be a different story.

We have a zero based budget with weekly allotments for spending. Once the money is gone, it's gone, unless it's a necessary expense and then we just track it and pay ourselves back. I have a car repair fund, a car play fund, etc, etc. It saves a ton of headaches when purchases come up, although having 7 bank accounts does get a bit convoluted if you're not careful. I also grandfathered it 95% of my toys since they were all paid off before we got married. I typically buy and sell stuff to fund the builds or really scrimp on my day to day spending. My wife's attitude is that if it doesn't affect our day to day living, do what you want.

Loud as I am in many ways, I refuse to get in a shouting match. She knows this very well and yet tried to. Oh she was madder than a wet hen that night, the more she'd try to upset me the more I'd laugh at her.

Similar, part of my check goes to the joint acct and the rest to my own acct for my spending. I ask her permission for non-essentials unless it's out of my own acct. Concert tickets are allowed though :)

my ex would get me cool things, but they were things i'd buy myself and weren't girly or romantic. like i can get myself speakers for the house, or something for the truck. but i'm not going to go buy myself tiffany jewelry (although eventually i had to because he'd refused to), or flowers, stuff like that. that's the kind of stuff i wanted as presents

Zip it you, lingerie is a thoughtful gift from the heart. It's sole intention is to boost the self image of the giftee.

OK..so it is you wouldn't buy the jewelry type stuff because you didn't want it? Didn't care? Something else?

Flowers is a different story, though I reckon one can buy plants and such.

Cupcake isn't into that kind of stuff. She is the type that would want the speakers, kitchen stuff, that's about it..no clothes unless she asks.

I'm not a jewelry person at all for myself so I don't quite understand the process. But I guess what you're saying is you want the stuff that would be considered a splurge or not practical?

haha no it's not that. it's that jewelry and flowers aren't the types of things women buy for themselves. they're supposed to be gifts from your significant other that you can use to make other women jealous hehe

If it were going on a Land Rover or Escalade (or something gaudy like that) I think you'd be onto something. On a Suby, it might not be the right message...

Jealous of you because you have that jewelry, or jealous of the man who they have?

it's a little bit of both. when i was with my ex and i'd see other women with tiffany i'd get jealous that they had someone that would buy them that kind of stuff. my ex made more money than me, could have afforded it all day long, but refused to saying it was a waste of money. i thought him getting a new shelby every year, and refusing to eat leftovers was a waste of money but whatever...
