So after about 100 pages I gave up looking for a black truck and pyrite mica shell. Here's what it looks like if you are wondering! 20160906_173621_zpswwsaudyr_57f5c2da57aec57a62171bec521dd8551abc2041.jpg

Here is some general info I think I would have liked to have found before I got my shell.

If you look on your door sticker you will see A sticker that says something like, load capacity, to include driver and passengers should not exceed 1050 pounds. Wording and weights will vary. Minus 200 per person (average) that leaves only ~800 pounds of total cargo capacity with just the driver. Most shells are around 150 to 200 pounds. I have the Leer 100RCC and it comes in just under 200 pounds. That brings my cargo capacity down to ~600 pounds.

The point is with just me and the shell I have already used nearly half of the cargo limit rating for the Tacoma. If I was still running all stock, putting three "healthy" Americans in the back would put my bed on the bump stops.

In fact, when my Taco was stock I put around 800 pounds of steel plates in the back. I was moving them for a friend of mine. My bed was on the bump stops the entire time. Yes I apologized to my Taco. Cargo capacity in a Taco has never been anything to brag about.

Some things you can do to increase this are getting higher load rated tires, and modify suspension. You can still get great ride quality, just make sure you match you tires and suspension to planned loads.

We'll see how it holds up. I don't tow at all, and won't be loading the back up that often. If it stays level, I'll be happy. If not, new leafs will be down the road.

That's really not all that bad looking. I kinda like it, maybe add some TRD bronze beadlock wheels or some other type of bronze wheels wheels form SCS. Maybe someone could photo shop them for you, I'd like to see how it would look.

Yup. The stock suspension is pathetic. Rubber bed mat? Add that. Oversize spare? Add that difference. Toolbox, even a small one? Add that. Nibbles down payload very quickly.

Just keep throwin' money at it.
Sorry, been off camping for a week. That was my old 99 extra cab with a "six-pac" contractors canopy I found on CL years ago.

Yes. It's Palo Duro. It was 112 in the shade, so not the most pleasant trip I've ever been on. But, wanted the experience, so I got it.

Agreed! I'm excited to have mine this year for traveling to Arkansas for duck hunting. Keeping gear and dogs out of the weather.

Sold my tonneau cover this weekend and ordered an ARE CX shell this morning. We have been camping more, so the extra room provided by the shell will be appreciated. I ordered it with the fold down front window, vented Windoors (both sides) carpeted interior and Yakima Roof Rack. It was more than I wanted to spend, but I couldn't find any used shells locally. Pics in a few weeks.

I shopped around and looked at Leer, Century and Jason. Surprisingly the ARE was still the best value.
