Going on for the TSB Update. What exactly do I need to print and ask for the service department to perform?

Good for you! I was happy as heck after TSB... not anymore, unfortunately, because I like everything about this Tacoma except freaking shifting.

I just got the TSB done today. The shifting from P and R to D is fixed. I'm happy.

Go to the first page on this thread and download the pdf. Find your Vin on the right hand side to show that yours was effected. And complain about one of the issues listed.

I believe the issue came from the transmission acting up. Which also leads me to believe I probably have the low fluid in addition to needing the tsb update I got. I won't know for at least another two weeks since I don't have time to drive far enough to burn through that much fuel, lol.

I had the same problem when shifting from reverse to drive when it was cold. It would hesitate for a few seconds then go into gear so I took my truck in for my first service and told them what was happening and that I wanted the transmission fluid checked. I had to leave it there for about 4 hrs but when they called me back to pick it up they said that it was 1.25quarts low! Now they didn't do the tsb that I know of but now it is shifting great and the hesitation is gone also

Hey bud, mine is reverting back to the problems I had before. I'm taking it back in AGAIN on Monday so let me get it straightened out and then I'll send you service records. I'm starting to price out other trucks. I've had 8 months of straight issues.

I can categorically say that I don't have, and have not had, any shifting issues...truck was bought new at the end of June. Additionally, I'm averaging over 25 mpg which is a huge improvement over my 2012.

You guys that are still having the shifting problems AFTER the TSB...... Some of you are likely still low on Tranny fluid, which I believe was the main cause of these issues to start with... the TSB likely just gave you better shift points.

Do you agree Gearcruncher..?? You opinion please..!!

I had fluid topped and then a week later had the TSB. After 1000 miles the 2-3 slip has started creeping back into the picture. It was awesome for 900 miles. The R-D hesitation is still gone and 1-2 hesitation is still gone. It has been most noticeable first drive in the morning leaving my neighborhood. After is gets up to temp it is not as prominent. I used ECT for the first time today at around 6500 miles. It shifted great in that mode. I am going to run in ECT through the weekend to see how it affects my city mpg. It is still much better after the TSB. It could be the learning bs causing it. I do tend to baby it through the gears most of the time. The 1-2 and 2-3 did not occur often the first 4000 miles. From 4000 until the TSB it became routine hesitation.

But in my opinion "if it happens when cold", generally means..."before the fluid expands"...That is why I'd still be thinking low fluid...If you have the proper amount of fluid, it does NOT need to expand to may it work properly...unless of course, you have driven many miles with low fluid... tranny may be Pooched now..??

    Good luck with it man..

Mine was 1 quart low at first service and topped off. It was somewhat better but the TSB fixed everything for 7 weeks. Fluid level has not changed in that period of time. That is why I am suspicious of the learning feature. Might do a battery disconnect in a few days just as a test.

OK...you got 20K on it.... you then have ran for 20K low on fluid...?? If so, I don't want to buy your truck..!
Sorry man, I think you have to live with the issues now.... Maybe consider trading just before power train warranty runs out if Toyota will not fix it for you...

You may have to fight them, but I'd try...."you sold me a truck low on fluid"... I ran it for 20K because you and your dealer refused to check the level... YOU'RE BAD....!!! YOU owe me..!

I'd start a conversation with Toyota...!

I have a little over 8,000 miles on mine. I dropped it off at Boch Toyota in Norwood MA. They did not check the transmission fluid, they told me after the fact that it would be 190 bucks to do that. They say they did the TSB but I doubt they did as I don't feel any difference. My biggest complaint is the laggyness of the truck. Driving around at 30 or 40mph the truck sits at 1k and never downshifts unless I mash the gas. I can't just cruise. Its so frustrating.

I agree the fluid level should be inspected when the TSB is applied .
Unfortunately , the instructions within the tsb do " NOT " include the technician to manually check the transmission fluid .
Thats a huge mistake in transmission diagnostics . The very first thing you do in any transmission diagnostic is manually check the fluid level .
This is automatic transmissions 101 and Toyota missed the bus on this tsb .
