I wanted the Toyo R/T when I was looking (ended with the Toyo A/T), they were just a little out of my budget but from all my research seemed like a great tire.

Those goodyears or coopers are probably the better tires there.. I personally like the BFG km2s. Or the nitto trail grapplers look good too.... IMO

Those Fuel tires are made in China.

Coopers and Goodyears are US made.

The Toyos - ? They have plants everywhere but the profits go to Japan.
That information would steer my decision, but I'm kinda patriotic that way. Keep US dollars in the US :oldglory:

Love my Cooper ATPs by the way. I'll be getting Cooper STT pro pizza cutters when these tires wear out.

Point taken - and if the GM midsized trucks had the track record the Tacomas had, I'd seriously consider buying one.

It's pretty hard to NOT buy something manufactured in China these days. But when I have the choice, I buy American.

And my Taco was built in Texas, so there's that.

I'd go with the Toyos. I have Toyo A/Ts and they are a fantastic tire, had no issues getting them balanced. If my truck was lifted I would have gone with the R/Ts

I've had the toyo Ats on my truck and they're great tires. I've also had the toyo MT's on my Touareg and they were awesome, a little stiff in colder temps but they still did great.

I've been eyeing the cooper MTP's ever since @bobsuruncle put them on his truck

Scant reviews, and the ones that are out there say they are good or terribly bad, and they seem like more of a show tire than anything else. Only google images I pulled up was people running it on like a 20 inch rim on mallcrawlers.

I've had the MTPs on my truck for about a week now. So far I really love them and get compliments on how meaty they are. Even my wife who doesn't ever notice jack on my truck was like "Wow, those look really awesome and super aggressive." They're fairly light too. These are 55.9 lbs each as compared to a duratrac at 59lbs or a Maxx at 63 lbs.

The only thing was since they're a newer tire, there aren't too many reviews on longevity so it was a bit of a gamble. For the price though, they can't be beat.

They're not for the faint of heart though. Under 10mph they vibrate the truck a bit. It's from the deep, alternating outer lugs. They're also very very noisy on the road. It's the classic mud tire hummmmmmmmm as you're driving. It doesn't bother me though, so that wasn't an issue. Now onto the pics. These are in a 285/75r16

I have run 3 sets of Duratracs, and am running Coopers now. The Coopers I have are actually ATPs, but even at 40 PSI, I have been making my way over, in, and around everything in sight in the Taco.

I ran my Duratracs on a Jeep WJ, a Jeep JKU, and a Dodge 3/4 ton. My only real complaint is that they do not clean out mud or packed dirt very well, if at all. They also didn't fare very well against deep, soft snow or packed ice/snow. And that was with 315/70-17s in a Jeep with 5.13s.

Cooper's already won me over, and I'm grabbing STT Pros next.

I had the Cooper stt previously, and was going to get the stt pro, then found the Cooper mtp which was about $60 a tire cheaper so it was a bit of a no brainer for me. Yes it's a mud terrain so it's got the hum driving down the road. I've got a out 1600 miles on them now, occasionally wheeling so far. Can't wait to try them in the snow.

Cooper owns Chinese plants, although those are supposedly only to make tires for the Chinese market but if you want to check look for DOT code 1RM on the sidewall. That's their Cooper/Kenda plant code for the factory in Kunshan, Jiangsu. They also have a Serbian plant, DOT code 1U3.

FWIW, Goodyear also has two Chinese plants, DOT codes 1TC and 17L.

I dunno whether they make any tires that get used here and if so I would assume it's only lower end models. Just that they have U.S. DOT codes for a reason I suspect.

Just to throw in my experience, I was one of those that had a terrible experience with the goodyear duratracs. Just about the worst tire ive ever owned. Now have falken wildpeak at3s. The coopers will probably be a good tire.
