If that's the case, I highly advise he never works on his truck alone again. Not being a dick, just being realistic. I don't understand how you over fill your engine to begin with. You buy the proper amount of oil, change your filter, dump oil in, check.

Apparently, it is easy to confuse the 2 drain plugs:

Over fill the engine, possibly drain the transmission, START AND RUN THE ENGINE after you figure you've drained the oil out, not noticing the red transmission fluid which should be almost clear engine oil assuming he did drain the transmission................. Come on

If the guys above are right and you did drain your transmission, you probably won't make it back up the hill of your driveway. Transmission will be slipping like crazy and you can do some serious damage. I really hope that's not the case. Where in MD are you?

Hey guys. Thanks for all the help. I've changed oil in my old Hondas for years and never had a problem. After looking at your responses, and those pictures, it's clear I drained the AT fluid and not the oil. Luckily, I only drove about 1/4 mile. I'm parked in such a way I can drop it in N and roll into the garage to level off. I suspect I can simply refill At Fluid, completely drain oil and then put in a fresh oil. Stupid freaking mistake. Seems easy to mix those up but I'm just kicking myself right now.

    Thanks for the quick responses.

Well it's a good thing you didn't take it for much of a ride. I don't even want to think about what a new tranny for a 2015 would have cost you. Check your manual and make sure you get the right transmission fluid, not sure what the 2015 calls for. Maybe use some red paint on the tranny pan plug just to avoid this from happening again.

the only thing that might save you is that, even if you drain the pan, you dont completley drain all the fluid out of the trans, just make sure you do the proper fill/check procedure, theres a thread for it on here.

wont actually be that much, the 1GR-FE and auto trans never got changed at all during the production run, so any auto trans from a 2005-2015 v6 truck should drop right in.

One of the major reasons I buy new. Never know the history of used vehicles.

There was some AT fluid in the pan during that drive. Transmission was def slipping but I suppose it could've been worse. Actual drive distance with 0 AT fluid is about .001 miles.

Personally with atf I would replace with Toyota brand atf ws. So that way when you take your truck into the dealer because you put the wrong fluid in they cant get you for that and wont cover it.

Definitely not that. That's ford fluid. I agree on dealer fluid especially since you're still under warranty.

Toyota is the only place to buy Toyota brand products. Not sure what the cost is but my local dealer is pretty close to the same price as aftermarket fluids. I generally don't go to the dealer for anything, usually a rip off. But in this case, it's the safest bet.
