If it's similar to PA state campgrounds, you pay by the type of site, ie no electricity, only electricity, full (water, sewage, and elec)

Understood, friend toured the west in her teardrop and mentioned that she got billed at the RV rate which was considerably higher. We have a camping trailer on the way to us and may find ourselves dipping into sites like KOA from time to time and was curious as to what to expect.

Some KOAs try to be "destinations". We only use them as a place to shower and sleep - hardly ever cook meals there.

    Arrive late, sleep, leave early.

A nice thing about a teardrop is the setup time - there is none! All I do is park, and we crawl in the back and sleep. Same with leaving in the morning.

As I said, they are a game changer!

Looks like we see them in the same way. Not interested in hanging out in them, just want to make use of them as an overnight location if required. We didn't go with the teardrop as we wanted a bit more space and a few more amenities on our trailer so we ordered a Kimberley Kamper which opens up to be a bit bigger than a teardrop.

Not a fan of campgrounds. We likely will never use a KOA type. If/when we have/do, it's be forest service ones.
Initially I wanted indoor toilet and kitchen. That was all I required. Anything else was just a bonus.
We downsized our ideas to the teardrop after many many q and a aimed at ourselves. Most recently, I was riding my bike around Yosemite on a day off and made a point to look at the setups of all types.

Most, even those big rigs, we're cooking outside, sitting around the fire, sitting at the picnic tables, chairs arranged in conversation circles...

That observation alone is really what turned us to the teardrop. We weren't going to be inside except to sleep.

    I do like Kimberleys.

Of course, getting a teardrop was "culture shock" for me - being a backpacker for so many decades. Actually, we did not look at all the small trailer/camper options out there. It was a "let's try this" idea, to be sold if we didn't like it.

Funny thing is, it satisfies our requirements - not bad for a first guess.

It's not perfect, and has drawbacks, but overall, we are happy. Now, when we are camping in the rain, I will be missing the extra space of the Kimberley!

Ah, there's a new one in Bowling Green, KY and that's only about an hour and a half out. I was in ATL a few weeks back and wanted to stop at the one right across the state line but was too exhausted on the way back

That's right - I forgot about the one in Kentucky.

Just so you know, in Chattanooga, very close to Cabela's is a new Bass Pro, and about 10 miles north is a Sportsman Warehouse.

You could spend the entire day.... ;)

Agreed. I spent many hours looking at Aussie trailer rigs. If we were to go full-on expo, like leave town and rent the house for a year while we wander a continent or two, with the kid, I'd get something more like a Kimberly.
I will likely put a roofrack on the teardrop and then add an awning or two to that in the future. Possibly even a second story (RTT). Can always get a portable shower or shitter setup if deemed a necessity down the road.

IMG_0036.jpg Like most on here I was a diehard tent camper. Several years in a row of rain sleet and snow and a wet bed changed my outlook.
Now I am dry off the ground with a heater.
