Opinions on running boards and canopy garage...

Hi..

Just upgraded from a SR5 Pre-Runner DBCB 06 to a 17 DBCB TRD Sport 2WD, Barcelona red

I'm looking at running boards and would like some opinions on the ones in the picture please. They are Go Rhino RB10's

I also don't have a covered garage and I'm looking into the portable carports like the ones from shelter logic. only with the roof. Since I never had one before. I'm looking for some feedback on them. I live in southern California and the winds can get really bad in the fall and spring time. also my drive way is dirt not cement.. :-(

I like the black ones. I am the same situation as you. What to do and I am on the fence. Not into heavy off roading just need a 4x4 and want running boards. Let me know how you make out.

Some options for you to check out.

Mine are Warrior Products. Kind of tight to the body, enough for my daughter. Just not perfect for adults. I think Toyota has some running boards that look nice also.

 

I'd be curious to hear a comparison of the Go Rhino against the Toyota cast aluminum running boards.

The ones you show in the pic look like they have depressions in them and "may" hold water and crap... not good.
The other example shown had "holes"... I don't care for either of them.... I've got the OEM ones...mainly for the paint protection... I've have them since 2006...and now on my 2016.... love 'em..

 

I do not recommend the Go Rhino, I had them on my Silverado. They lasted about 6 months and the sandpaper like coating started peeling off in sheets. They did send me a brand new set under warranty when I provided pictures and original receipt, so at least they had good customer service.

 

I have the RB-10 running boards. I bought them because they are essentially a mud flap for the entire rocker panel and they catch all the rocks from hitting the side of the truck. I am running wider than stock tires. As an added bonus, I don't need a step ladder to clean my windshield or wash my roof. As another added bonus, they will help keep door dings down but that was never really a concern to me since I park very far away from everyone else. They are made extremely well and are covered with something exactly like line-x and it seems very well adhered. Maybe the set that JoeTart had were not prepped right?? The only bad thing about them is that they are so close to the floorboard of the truck that you step up onto the running board and then down into the truck. I have actually begun to just step over them but they stick out so far that you can skin a shin on them if you aren't careful. For me, I love them and they are built better than any other running boards or tube steps I have seen. I would suggest them to a family member and I would buy them again, just some things to think about. I am also considering buying the drop steps that bolt to them so I don't have to step over them anymore. And the slots go through, so they don't hold water like others have "assumed". They look nice. Would you have a part # by any chance?

 

Here's what mine did, It would peel in large sections. I don't think it was prep issue. But they did warranty it with very little effort so at least its a good company! And they do tear the crap out of your leg if you wear shorts!

 

No I don't got part # as they put them before I bot the truck... Sorry...

Today I found the canopy at Costco. Pleasantly surprised since I wasn't looking for it at that time. 10x20 $230 bucks. and is already up.

Still looking for the running boards. I like the Rhino's but not crazy about the price and wasn't sure about the finish.. it does look like it could peel.
The warrior ones look very nice but I'm looking for more of an OEM look. where it doesn't have that space between the running board and the body of the truck.
The one's I really like. are the ones that over60 has on that red tacoma. but I couldn't find anything showing if they would fit a '17. I think I saw them in Amazon or Ebay.
I also want them mostly to protect the paint... not only from stuff on the road.. but also for when people open their car doors without looking. and than they see that huge thing they just hit their door against.. Lol. and of course because of the looks.

Please keep the ideas coming. and if any one knows if the ones that over60 is showing. would fit on at 17 double cab.

I'm kinda digging these. Do you have a side shot picture you can post? I'd like to see how they look from, say, 20' away from the side. Oh, and do they stick out past your tires if you were looking at them from the front? Looks like they're flush with them but can't tell for sure.

I feel that the steps are good but not great. Plenty of options out there. Anything that fits a 2015 will also work. If I could do it again I would look at something from Toyota or get some real sliders.

 

Thinking about changing out my OEM Predator steps...maybe a trade?? Maybe...still undecided.

 

IMO leave the truck outside; it's safer. Edit: looks sturdy I hope it stays together in high winds is all

I think he means to leave it unprotected. That tent looks like it will blow over on the truck with and type of wind.

 

That's what I thought he was talking about. just wanted to make sure. and I am kind of hesitant about the canopy. but my previous truck was already getting sun damage in just 5 years. the thing has 13 inch stakes 3 in each leg. so I hope it stays put.
I'll be fine if the plastic rips. I just hope the frame stays put. I also thinking in parking it outside of it this fall. just to see how it does with the winds. I live in san fernando valley los angeles. and the summer heat is hell on the paint.
