Smitty I think you are missing the point here. Read Barcelona post about if you spent 40,000 on a truck and you expect perfection then you have a tough life ahead of you. You see this sort of mind set is in grain throughout the federal and state government

Also I already know you are a fed

Love my 2006 long bed, one of the main reasons I got the truck, keep a folding ladder in there and need the 6'. I'm at 138K and today just had my guy diagnose the noise I was hearing as the U joint going bad, get it done this week. Never heard of the hood flutter issue, mine is rock solid. However I was probably one of the first to buck Toyota's system about the defective daytime running lights, they replaced three times at their $. It was like every 30K miles, been good since the last one. Did see they finally came out with a bulletin on that.

I've posted this in the past on the vibration thread but here is my two cents:

I think the 3rd gen hood is longer as when compared to 2nd Gen counterparts. From what I've read online its supposed to be a "pedestrian impact zone" requirement that Toyota wants to meet (whether its required by .gov I don't know).

But its essentially the same design as a second gen just longer. Seems the flutter/vibration is really prevalent in SR5/OR models (non-hood scoop models).

Anyone who purchased a Sport/PRO with a hood scoop is going to see much less (if any) flutter with that hood-scoop attached smack in the middle of the hood essentially acting like a panel breaker stiffening up the surrounding structure. That's obviously not the intended purpose but I think that's essentially what's happening. Has anyone owning a sport complained about flutter/vibrations?

I know sport owners complained about the adhesive failing (which is part of this problem) but I doubt they have much flutter issues compared to non-sport model owners.

What amazes me is that they (Toyota) didn't notice this in test drives.

The bigger "open-mouth" grill doesn't help thing either I would guess.

No issues here at 7500K miles. Had the transmission flash done and that fixed the only issue I had with the R to D delay. SR5 dclb 4x4.

My truck is a LB and has 2300 miles on it. I am starting to hear the rear diff howling noise. It does not happen all the time It tends to start around 50 to 60 mph. I don't have any other problems Shifting is fine.

It's a work in progress. See my build thread.
No howling. No fluttering. No rumbling. No CPS failure. No problems at all with my '16 4x4 Sport V6 Access Cab Long Bed. 5K miles

I did have a CPS failure in my 1st '16 SR5 V6 Access Cab 4x4, which the dealer misdiagnosed and tore down the engine, replace some unnecessary stuff, gave it back to me, and then the CPS took out the Cat. I traded it back for the Sport, and have been very happy, since.

If angles are set up correctly, the inconsistencies cancel themselves out. If they are at 0*, yes they won't vibe, but they will fail way too early. You need equal but opposite working angles in the front and rear of the shaft. I did tons of research on this building my last truck. Learned more than I ever wanted to know about driveshaft LOL.

You are right. Also, you need to limit the swing in angle during acceleration and deceleration.

Yeah, that's pretty tough on something with decent horsepower. I compensated a bit on my street truck with an extra -2° at the rear pinion.
