I have had my 2013 DCSB for about 6 months and have only put about 1200 miles on it. Is there anything I need to do because I don't drive it much? Should I still change the oil every 6 months or 1 year? Anything else?

    Thanks

I'd do the oil every 6 months if you aren't putting enough mileage on it, but as far as anything else goes I'd say as long as you taker her for a spin once a week or so you should be fine.

You don't say if its a 4WD; if so make it a point to engage the 4WD when you drive the vehicle. I would worry about moisture accumulation, you should think about getting things hot enough to drive the water accumulation out. If you use synthetic oil you can go 1 year without much worry about the oil itself.

For the first 4 years I owned my 2012, I only put on about 4K a year. The oil would get changed anywhere between 12 to 15 months and I used Mobil 1 EP as a added insurance. Truthfully any quality synthetic oil (Mobil 1, Pennzoil, ETC) will be fine for a year and a half. I also changed all the diff oils and 4wd to synthetic just to make sure I was running the best fluids.

I've had my 2015 for 18 months and am only at 6900 miles. I've only had two oil changes and I pop her in 4WD a couple times during the summer. In winter, 4WD is constantly used. I would still get the oil changed every 6 months, but if you go over here and there, I wouldn't worry. As you can see I average every nine months.

I add about 5k miles on my Tacoma a year. I still change my oil every 6 months with synthetic. Same with in cabin, engine air filters. More piece of mind than anything.

I only put on about 4k/year. I change the oil using synthetic (whatever is cheapest at Wallyworld at the time) with a good filter once per year. The whole point of synthetic oil is that it is more "slippery" and less subject to degradation over time vs Dino oil.

I have a 2012 PreRunner with 5400 miles. I change oil/filter every 6 months with Mobil 1, take it down the road with e locker engaged every 2 months or so. Every week I take it out on the freeway, get it hot, and floor it a couple of times ( read about that here on TW awhile back ). I am not very mechanical, never quite figured out how important/necessary oil changes are in my case but cheap insurance and also I have 8 year VSC so I follow maintenance guidelines. Now that I think about it most of my mileage is blowing the truck out!
