$10,000 over a trd off-road? When I saw that I almost fell over. Imagine what 10k in the aftermarket could do to a TRD OR?

A co worker is looking at trading his '14 trd tundra in on a new Tacoma, are they still going for pretty much MSRP? I know they were before I was looking at one (I bought a 4Runner TE)

I think if you tried to add the same options I have it costing more to get an OR then order parts:

    Leather Seats: $1200
    Shocks: $4500
    Rigid Fog Lights: $800
TRD skid plate + exhaust: $700
    TRD RIMs: $1700

$8900... and that's just the start.

Trying to decide on a BAK F1 Folding tonneau or the Lock and Roll tonneau. Winters here involve snow, rain and ice in that order. I worry about how effective the roll top would be. Anyone have any experience with the roll type tonneaus vs the fold type?

By "roll up" do you mean the manual or electric..?? I had an Access Laredo on my 2006 Taco for 10 years here in Muskoka... Snow capital of the Great White North.... The cover performed very well, but I did not roll it that often.... I would shove the snow off it and roll it up to the cab. Strap it and use the bed... no problem. It would also hold over 3' of snow no problem as it had 2 cross bars.... Velcro side closures worked very well in winter as well...
In BC.. this cover would work very well for you..
If you want security, I'd go the hard cover..

I now went with the hard Solid Fold 2.0 on my 2016... Like it also, so far...

    I have one of these:

    http://www.bakfliptonneaucover.com/revolver_x2

On my Ford F150. It's basically a hybrid between a roll up and a folding tonneau cover. At least that's what I think. It has steel slats that lock into the sides of the truck when the cover is completely rolled down so it's just as secure as a folding cover but it can be rolled up out of the way like a rolling cover. I love mine. No problems with it in the winter and water doesn't seem to get in. The dealer did install a box sealing kit though and bedline my F150 at the same time as installing the cover though so I'm sure that has a lot more to do with a good seal than anything else.

I wouldn't buy any other cover but something like this again. It's simply far more reliable than a roll and lock yet provides the convenience of that design with the security of the flip covers.

I heard from a few guys at work with a roll'n'lock on the work truck that they have. That they would not buy one for their personal vehicle because they tend to freeze. Having a black top the snow will melt then get into the rails and freeze, causing you problems. Also they mentioned that they also had a problem with dirt and dust on the rollers. I have a bakflip HD and I have no issues with it.
I would go with the F1 if I was you.

I would think that any of those type would be an issue sooner or later... nothing beats manual roll-up..!

Any of you actually have an X2...

Trust me it's way better than a hard cover.

X2 is the best of both words. You can't cut through it with child scissors like most roll covers lol.

Thanks guys I figured the Roll N Lock might have problems in our climate. I intend to go with the F1.

It takes up way less space when it's all the way up and it's not nearly as flimsy. Plus it locks via a lever mechanism so no need to have a second locking mechanism that will break at some point.

I've had both. The X2 is far nicer IMHO to operate and it stows at the level of the bed so it also doesn't look like crap.

My bakflip doesn't feel flimsy. I also like the fact that I can open in sections rather then having to roll it open all the way.

All good man. To each his own. Check out the X2 if you see one on a truck. It's pretty nifty.

My brother has a 1 ton Ram. It has a vinyl roll up cover. The cover is getting old and needs replacing soon. I told him about the X2. It would be perfect for his truck because he pulls a 5th wheel and the cover will not interfere in any way. The X2 is stronger that what he has and is a lot simpler to operate.

Personally I like the new Bak Flip MX4 as you don't need to close the Tailgate before you close the last fold of the Tonneau cover. The Bak Flip HD is nice too. I find the Roll and lock is great the first year you have it but it tends to freeze up in the winter and over time doesn't pull back into the front as easy.

The Bak Flip HD is a gloss black where the MX4 is matte black. I posted a video on the HD model here a while back: https://youtu.be/ZkIiGqkeMiA
