Don't call the dealership. Call the Toyota headquarters or email them with photos. I called and emailed them.

What NCTACO says. The dealers have no say whether it gets swapped out. They just forward pics to HQ, HQ makes the decisions

The undercoating that Toyota did in 2012 was a light black spray. My truck looked like the used dealer painted just black paint to cover all the rust spots.

I contacted about 5 Toyota dealerships around me and half of them didn't even know what I was talking about. But that's because I'm in NC and we aren't a cold winter state. Good luck with headquarters lol.

Have you looked at the car fax and see where it originated from?

The spray Toyota did on mine was thicker like your pictures. It just hides the holes created by the rust, the dealers inspections are a bit sketchy also. They are only allowed to tap lightly on the frame with a ball peen hammer and if there is no visible holes larger than 10mm then it will pass inspection. The coating covers the holes till it peels off but by then it may be too late for some.

Get under your truck and do a pre-inspection yourself. Take a screwdriver and start poking around with it, use a hammer also and start tapping the frame. You should be able to tell the difference between solid metal and a thud sound. Don't make holes yourself! If you make your own holes the dealer should be able to tell if you do and that would more than likely void any warranty if you have one.

After you do your pre-inspection, take it to a dealer to have them inspect it. If they have no clue what they are doing have them call your regional HQ and have it explained to them.

Do what he says. Those frames rust from the inside out, so it might look ok on the outside til you make a hole and see flakes of rust pouring out like a piñata lol.

I didn't need to use a hammer! Toyota corporate is calling by this Friday. My truck didn't have the Toyota spray and inspection done, but it's an American truck living in Canada since 2005. I'll see how far I can get with them.

Unless it's different in Canada, in the US the truck needed to be inspected and coated prior to the deadline to qualify for a replacement. Sorry man, hate to see another first gen lost to rust :( Could try sourcing a clean frame and doing the swap yourself maybe?
