5100 set at .85 and the 4 leaf pack from my '15. Its dead even, i think he is going to order a add-a-leaf to get little bit of rake back.

Appreciate. I had very specific guide lines for the old mans truck. Cheap, simple, and don't "jack it up". So I feel like I hit a home run when he said he was happy with it. haha

I had a quick coolant question. I bought my truck a year and a half ago with ~100k miles on it. I never bothered checking the coolant since it was somewhere between full and low in the reservoir and have put ~23k miles on it with 5k mile oil changes and no missing oil or other issues.

This August I was going for a road trip with a friend through the desert in a heatwave and decided to top off the coolant. I put it up to full in the reservoir and today I noticed that it was about 1/2"-3/4" lower than the full line. I've driven over 1300 miles since then including a 760 mile road trip in 100 degree weather and another 120 mile road trip in similar weather.

I just topped it off again and will keep an eye on the level and the mileage. The temp gauge has never budged from dead center even when my friend required that I run the AC in the super hot conditions on the long road trip (he's from another country where it doesn't get as hot).

Does this sound like normal operation for the engine or should I start looking for some signs of a leak somewhere? The coolant in the reservoir is nice and clean / no oil, bubbles, or crusty stuff that I can see in there.

It sounds normal to me, the level in the reservoir will vary with the temperature. If you fill the reservoir when the engine is hot the level will go down when the engine cools as it sucks coolant into the radiator.

If it keeps going down then look for a leak. I got a pressure tester from harbor freight, very useful.

Wow I didn't know there was such a thing. I'll keep an eye on it and see if it keeps going down. If so I'll get a pressure tester - there seems to be a lot of resources on YouTube about how to use one. Maybe autoparts stores will have one to loan for free. Thanks for the response! Have a good day.

My truck was going thru small bits of coolant for awhile before I stumbled onto it's secret project.........

Was pretty well hidden behind the pulley........until it got like this. Never a drop on the ground. Replaced WP and found belt tensioner pulley was about to fry so replaced that too.

Yikes. Did you replace your water pump yourself? If so how involved is it? How many miles were you at when you found that issue? Were you overheating at all? Where should I check to see if that's happening on my truck? Sorry for the barrage of questions. Thanks for the info.

Yes, changed it myself and my advice is to just up the coin for the oem. Nothing else comes with a gasket worth a shit. Fuck paper or paper with a bead of sealant which is all that is available otherwise. Even that tar paper type would be OK but nothing beats the rubberized steel oem gasket IMO. The pump itself might be OK but still, my oem lasted 140k and so did the antifreeze? so to me the oem was worth the extra money for peace of mind. Fluid was still pinkish but not good. No overheating. Look into the backside of the pulley to see if it is happening. Not too much of a bitch to change at all, just remove skids so you have access top and bottom. Getting the fan clutch nuts loose and properly tightened is probably the trickiest part. I also took advantage of the situation to install a flush/fill thing on heater hoses by firewall. Made me a hose to cram into radiator cap opening to route the water to the ground. MUCH easier, more effective and quicker to flush out system.

Hey new to the Tacoma world. Just purchased this gem last week and already have the mod itch. I bought this taco so I can work on my 4Runner over the winter, and now I'm addicted. Any other low budget mods that you member have done that are a must?!

Depending on where you live, CL will have something more than likely. Chevy uses the same lug pattern on some of their full size trucks as Toyota.

I've heard that's true, but not every GM 6 lug has the same center hub (Toyota's larger). Or so I've been told by some members. @vrod671 Comments?
