So do you just go out in the woods somewhere or is it like a guided hunt? Do you sleep outside? I have so many questions lol. The only big game I've ever hunted is deer here in GA, but I've been scouting places to take a trip next season. Right now, I'm leaning towards hunting white tail in Illinois just because they're so massive up there.

    That's just a refeed, brah...calories don't count on refeeds.

Probably a good bit of time since it is still 7ish months away but if you wanted to run with us (if you don't have you own group to go with) our time slot may fill up.

    http://www.spartan.com/en/race/detail/1706/overview

We signed up for the Saturday 'Open' morning session (9:15-12:00) and then a couple steps later you can select a more specific time which we chose 10:15-11:00. It says 'only 8 left at this price' but I think that means it just goes up $10 after that as opposed to that time slot filling up completely :notsure:. We got screwed this past weekend because we didn't know we had to register online like this (we had bought a groupon) so we didn't go through this process until the night before and we got stuck with the latest start time of the day.

I don't see an end date for the 30% off special (SUMMER30) but it's over $30 off if you can use it so if you are committed just doooo it!

If you want to join our team it is 'NeighBROs' (We are neighbors...and bros...get it?).

Basically go out in the woods and find them. You pick an area that should hold elk (has plenty of water, food and cover) then start walking. If you don't see fresh sign or even day old sign after half a day then its time to jump over the ridge and keep looking. You can bugle in some areas during the rut and might get a call back to help locate them. Its a crap shoot in general hunting areas though. They get so pressured that you might find em in weird places. After a half a day of walking I was about to jump areas since I didn't see any fresh scat and then walked into a cow at 40 yds. If you can get in on them then you just have to sit back and stalk until a clean shot presents itself.

That sounds awesome. So you sort of stalk them? After years of hunting out of stands, I've started only ground hunting, only using a blind or natural cover. It's so much more fun actually being eye level with them.

You stalk them most of the time. During the rut you can call them in and might get lucky enough to have a pissed off bull come running to challenge you. Bone chilling sound to hear an elk come running in bugling at 20 yds. Outside of the rut you have to find them though. They may bed down during the day and grunt here and there. You can follow the sounds and glass them from a distance if you are good. Surprisingly hard to see an animal so huge in thick timber. In my case some elk bugled at 6:30 am - 7am ish. Then went dead silent till 7:30 pm when the sun is setting and hunting hours are over. At that point, you are looking putting in miles and looking for sign.

lol.. hrm.. well everything gets thrown in the containers regardless.. only thing that actually takes time is to move them to the table and space them out before I put the lids on.. it takes a solid 10-15 mins, but I don't mind.. ive gotten a lot of fanfare over the last few years for it, and even got sponsored by a mealprep container company, who has supplied me with stuff for the last two years.. a small price to pay for a good hobby and great health! hehe

    enjoy my friends!

Well, that's cool about getting sponsored. I prep all my stuff, too, but I don't think a meal prep company is gonna sponsor a dude who fills his containers with Lucky charms :anonymous:

Can you do food plots up there or is it too cold? The deer around here wonder, but once we plant our plots, they hang around long enough to get shot.

What caliber gun do you use?

Baiting is illegal other than for bears (I believe). People use blinds for deer and speed goats. Otherwise you are just stalking. If I get time to hunt deer I'll just go shoot the first one I see.

I only hunt archery. I don't own a rifle and planned on getting one this last summer just incase I tag out again but decided not to. I have till 30sept for archery and then can hunt into rifle season with a bow but not sure I want to with how moronic the guys get up here.

I just started bow hunting this year...went Sat morning for the first time. I'm a lefty, so it took forever to find a decent used bow at a good price. Can't wait to drop one with it.

I am a lefty too. Couldn't find one locally that would have been cheaper than new after a tune. My uncle is a huge hunter and knows a archery shop owner who really hooked me up. I was addicted before I shot it ha.

DID NOT DRINK ONE SINGLE SIP OF ALCOHOL THIS WEEKEND. WIN (or loss, depending on what you like to do on your weekends, but this is a marked difference from my usual routine).

Alright, now that we have got that out of the way...I helped a friend move Friday night and all day Saturday. Changed my oil and shot my bow when we finished Saturday, then I went to the gym Saturday night. Bad decision. My squat was terrible. Had to take 25 pounds off of what I planned to work with, and it was still a struggle. Going to kill dead lifts and bench tonight though, I can feel it.

I got a Bowteck Tomkat off a friend who trades guns a lot for a good price. I love shooting it. Can't beat reusable ammo.

    Also, lefties unite!

If you are looking to hunt out of state you should look into a wyo elk hunt. Promise deer will be boring after you experience it.

Lefty checking in too, I have a Hoyt charger that's awesome.

Got back from charleston for my buddies bachelor party yesterday. Was there from Thursday- Sunday and it was as rough as
    You would expect.

Did legs tonight and absolutely crushed them. I contribute it to the massive carb loading of beer and southern fried foods.

    Squats 135x10, 225x5, 315x10, 335x8, 365x6, and 385x5.(pr)

Followed it up with extensions, curls, lunges, and calves and 20 minutes on a incline walking. Work tomorrow's gunna suckkkkkk
