I have favorable pricing for Goodyear tires and would like to get some feedback regarding the 3 A/T - M/T tires they currently sell. Namely:

    Wranlger MT/R
    Fierce Attitude M/T
    Wrangler Duratrac (current favorite)

I will be running stock height for the meantime until funds are available. Size will be 265/70/17.

Off-road use will be once a month with some snow in the winter- except for my annual road trip which is 1-2k miles with most of it on trails

    Question:

Fitment - Given the larger side lugs on the Duratracs, will it have rubbing issues with the suspension? How about the other 2 tires? (I've actually never seen them in person)
I have the Duratrac 265/75/16 installed on my 3rd Gen 4runner and love it.

How about 275s, any chance of them fitting with no rubbing?

I have the dura tracs on my second generation 4Runner. I have the 265/75/16's purchased and ready to put on 16" Trd FJ rims, I'm just waiting to get my truck. I love how the dura tracs work in the snow.

Sweet. What's the back spacing/offset on those wheels? Let me know when you get them on the truck. When do you get it anyway?

I have had a couple sets of duratracs. I tried duratracs after having Goodyear MTRs. The MTRs are decent off road tires but are horrible on pavement IMO, they were noisy, wore out quickly and they were SLIPPERY on wet pavement. I could not recommend MTRs for someone who is driving on pavement often. The Duratrac was night and day better than the MTR on wet and snowy pavement and I felt it was just as capable off road. I do not see the point in the MTR at all when the Duratrac overall seems to be a superior tire. The only issue I ever had with duratrac was a tire that was tough to keep balanced. For that reason I may give Cooper or BFG KO2s a try in the future, and Load C is the only option I will go with. Load E is just too heavy and stiff for a light truck application like the Tacoma. It is unnecessary to go with a Load E and will just worsen the ride, impact fuel economy, performance, etc. Definitely recommend a Load C tire.

Appreciate the feedback smitty. Yes, I've been very happy with the Load C Duratracs on my 4runner and would probably pick up the same set for the Tacoma. I'd love to try out some other brands like BFG or Nitto, however I can't justify spending full price especially when I have 35-40% off Goodyear tires  .. maybe when my discount runs out, i'll go for it.

Anyway, question about fitment: I've read on other forums that the MTRs are smaller than the Duratracs - smaller in terms of width. The Duratrac side lugs are the culprit, it makes the tire a quarter-ish inch wider. What are your thoughts?

I had Duratracs on my 1999 Tacoma and can second what Smitty said about being difficult to keep in balance. Mine also got progressively louder over time, to the point that they were annoyingly, can't hear the radio, people in other cars stare, hear it in your sleep loud by the time I traded it in with about 25k miles on them.

So far, with 5k on my 4Runner's Duratracs, no issues and I can still sleep well. Noise is there but very much tolerable since I reinforced the 4Runner with sound deadening material.
Was the balancing issue present from the get go or was it something that happened after XXX amount of miles?

The balance issues started probably 5000 miles in. They were fine for a while. The wheels on my old truck may have contributed too...those weren't the only tires I had that problem with. It just didn't seem to like Goodyears for some reason. I liked the tires a lot until they started getting so loud I was unable to hear the radio without cranking it too loud.

I had Duratracs for about 50k miles. They worked pretty well but they got very noisy as they wore down.
