Do one at a time, Pull the yoke off first (MAKE SURE TO MAKE ITS ORIENTATION).

Then you should be able to push off the outter rubber from the actual bearing on the drive shaft, then pull the bearing off in the same mannor as the yoke.

 

Okay, but where do I setup the jaws to pull from on the yoke? That's what I'm unsure about...

It's fairly tight, but once it starts moving it'll be easy.

 

I think I had to use my foot to break it.

 

Thanks Sam. I tried again, and the puller the I have can't get grip in that orientation. Might have to get a different puller or do something else... Thanks.

 

I had to use a big hose clamp to hold the jaws in position.

 

pull via the spots for the end caps of the u joint

 

I thought of that, but that may damage or score the metal.

Is that how you did yours?

 

Mine came off with such little effort i was able to get away with grabbing it out with samiam's method above.

But if it was being a pest i wouldnt have and issue grabbing it from the cap holes. If i really wanted to be nice id wrap the ends of the jaws with some electrical tape or slide a bit of rubber hose over the end of the jaws.

Does anyone know the measurements of where the OEM CB sits? Like where do the mount tabs sit in comparison to the CB? Or how much of the CB sits above the mounting points? At work messing with some ideas...

 

This is what im thinking.. Starting to 3D model it now..

2 piece, sandwich design. Bolts in counter sunk holes to keep them protected.

 

From my eyeballing, The stock driveshaft centerline sits about 1/2in - 5/8ths of an inch below the top mounting surface tab of the stock CB.\

In all my testing, spacing the cb up and down i have found the best results running it WAY down, that is, using the original bracket with a piece of flatstock over the top and mounting that to the truck like in the OP. I get some higher freq vibes at 80+ but i hardly ever drive that fast. And to have my 5mph vibe almost gone and my 15-25mph take off vibe completely gone its NICE.

interesting.. no issues with it hanging as low as it is in that orientation?

if thats the best way to do it.. I'll scrap this mount idea for the sake of time and headache. lol How bad are the vibes at 80+? i get vibes every once an awhile... but chalk it up to tires, nature of the beast, etc.

I'm just doing this swap for part longevity... not vibe related.

 

That bracket design would be very helpful.

I'm punting on this one... IEDLS bearing has been sold... and I will use stock replacement.
