    +1 great advice!

I've been looking into a 2016/2017, my problem is without a trade in most dealers won't work with invoice pricing. I've talked to about 8 different dealerships sale managers and everyone of them wants close to MSRP on popular trim levels (SR5/TRD V6's). Maybe it's a region thing, I don't know.

I wouldn't consider it a dog. It's just modern trucks have gotten a lot faster/powerful over the years. My dad has a one of the ecoboost 3.5 that thing hauls ass.

But I would know I just bought the sticker, and my truck would know, and my mechanic would know...

    Why does anybody make anything?

Because people will buy them, and you can make money.

    Paper is better. Tested. Proven.

    K&N is junk.

I'm curious about the difference between 2nd gen 2.7L and 3rd gen 2.7L.

Does the 3rd gen 2.7L have dual varible timing, higher compression ratio and 6 speed automatic which sounds like it should make more hp and better response. Then the hot steel stamping process to cut weight etc.

So my question is that isn't the 3rd gen lighter and faster?

    Has anyone driven both?

Hp/Tq ratings haven't historically been.. honest?

I have a 2nd gen 2.7 auto, and wouldn't mind trying a 3rd gen 2.7 auto in the same configuration. Adding an extra gear really blows my mind a little, I imagine my truck with an extra highway gear and can't imagine how boggy it must be before the RPMs climb into the power band (and it'd likely downshift before it gets there). Using cruise control must make it 100x more annoying.

Total conjecture on my part, but would be interested in hearing from someone who drove both gens, ideally with the same configuration.

I have no idea why. It's could possibly be emissions related. I did read somewhere on here the dyno testing standard procedure was change when the original 2TR-FE was qualified back in 2005 compared the dyno results on the 2016 2TR-FE with dual VVTI. But then again this is all tacomaworld hearsay.

Yeah and then add a K&N filter, I-Go fuel booster, lightweight wheels and tires, synthetic fluid in tranny and diff, remove spare tire and extra seats, LCE headers and then it'll really haul ass.

Fiberglass fenders, hood and bedsides, that'll shave some weight.
