Yeah my truck is at the dealer today for the second time (different dealer) to try and have the tsb done. First dealer wouldn't do it and said they didn't notice anything wrong with it.

Took the truck home and on the highway it stayed in third gear for 2km on a flat surface.

I didn't want to be rude but this time I printed off the tsb and left it on the drivers seat of the truck when I dropped it off.

Just got a call back saying they noticed the issue and did the tsb

I am kind of looking forward to seeing how much better it drives.

I never asked them to check the fluid level and I probably should have. If it isn't any better I'll have to take it in for that.

I just had my trans update, it holds gears longer and shifts more appropriately. It also no longer has the R to D delay, which is great. I had no issue getting the transmission update, but no doubt because I had went in several months ago with transmission issues, and asked for fluid check.....it was 2 quarts low! Most of my issues were solved with proper fluid, except the R to D delay, but that is now happily fixed.

2 Quarts? WOW, I have had to drive mine around in sport and shift between 3rd and 4th to get the truck to stop its constant shifting for gears and upshifting. Did You have similar issues like that or am I completely off base here?

Has anyone felt that after the update was done it felt way better but a month later it seems like it went back to having the shifting problems? Wondering if they can update it twice?

Sorry if this has been asked already

I just went for a 30 mile jaunt up Boulder pass- same old cruise control issues. Upshift, downshift, upshift, downshift...

Update completed. Seems better. But I'm not sure if we are all feeling a placebo effect.

Went in 3 months ago and trans fluid was 1.2 low. After adding fluid it seemed better.

Did the TSB regardless because I drank the coolade like the rest of you.

Lets see when I actually get on the freeway tomorrow.

It sounds like it fixed it, the cruise control problem was that it was staying in 4th even down hill and that to get out of 4th you had to cancel cruise control.

Yeah, I was rather shocked at two quarts, fortunately I caught it just under 800 miles (thanks to this site). the shifty gears is just inherent in the 6 speed tranny, but the tsb seems to have helped it hold lower gears better.

Okay, was riding around town today with it in S4 and when slowing around a corner it just seemed like I was really having to give it the gas to downshift and keep it from running around 1100-1200 RPMs, hopefully it will get better once they check and see how low it really is.

    Thanks again

Have you tried driving in D? It may act a little different. But definitely get the fluid checked, manually. Happy to help!

Yea absolutely, tossed it in D after the TSB was done and it seemed like a new truck. Over the last days I have noticed that it seems like the truck is constantly upshifting and forcing me to give it a ton of throttle to get moving. The truck lives in the 1100-1400 rpm range when it's in D. Very irritating to have to goose the gas to get any reaction out of the truck.

Hmmm, odd. Don't really know anything else except that it's always searching for best fuel economy, which is to run low rpms, so this 6 speed tranny shifts a lot. I just adjust my throttle input, since it's doing what it's designed to do. I do see how it can drive you batty, but I guess I just adjust my driving habit.

Wrong gear ratio from the get go! Rpms are too low for mpg's I suppose, so to get to get going ya have to give her a little extra all the time which does work, but does lot of downshifting then! Nature of the beast! I think get used to it and give her hell!:bikewheelie:

You got it! It's a Toyota engine you aren't going to hurt it! Just have to deal with the quirky new 6 speed transmission!
