Went to the dentist a few weeks ago and he told me that I need jaw surgery. After the surgery I can't go to work, do any heavy lifting (more than 5-10 pounds), or do anything strenuous. I am trying to think of some mods to do to keep me busy for a couple of weeks but the only thing I can get in mind is building some custom retro fit paint matched headlights and tail lights. I was wondering if you guys have any input.

Couple things I have done or I am doing in the near future:

Led bed light, and rock lights wired to switch on with dome light (when you unlock car) and with switch - possibly a mercury switch mounted in tailgate so when I drop the tailgate the lights come on.

    Washable cabin air filter

    Hood struts

Led interior lights (map and dome lights)

Wire cigarette plug to always be on so I can charge things while car is off

Reverse light mod (you use a brighter bulb and modify it to fit)

    Fishing rod holder

    Coin tray gun holster

    Hardwire radar detector

Most of these can be found here in the cheap/free mods thread by peircedtiger:

I hope you haven't wasted your money on the washable in cab air filter yet. I bought a K&N one and it sucks, I get so much dirt blowing through the vents. But thanks for the input, my surgery is in September 2017 so I have a year to buy stuff to keep me busy.

Bed and hood lights are good. So are LED backup lights (real light pods/bars).

ETA: a bigger inverter for the AC power outlet too.

I have reverse pods I just don't want to cut holes in the factory bumper so I'm going to buy a rear bumper and then build a tire carrier for it

I second the audio upgrades. No heavy lifting, it's all inside work, and it'll bring that '06 a little more up to date. Especially if you swap to a Bluetooth head unit.

Just a bunch of old crap
Wait... you have a year to prepare to find things that occupy just a couple weeks of your time while on the mend? Sounds like you need this first:

    http://www.lifehack.org/articles/productivity/7-ways-make-better-use-your-time.html

Make time for your body to relax, since it heals faster that way. Play some cards, binge watch some Netflix, get the new GTA, etc. Get your truck projects out of the way BEFORE surgery so you can chill and enjoy your rig while you heal.

I have a 2010 taco and the radio is messing up. I need to up grade it and I want to get blue tooth. Does this unit have Bluetooth, was it hard to install and what was the cost if I could ask?

I just did a head unit install a week ago... Very simple,

Here is the install kit I used:

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A6JMVXO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

and here is the head unit, Pioneer touch screen with bluetooth, The bluetooth is so nice to have..

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B017LKV8W0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Here is the installed picture, it looks like there is a gap in the dash but it is just the angle, actually fit was very nice.

    20160908_094808_zpskoqhnewx_da28b32aacecdfc2e5dc68a55988daf02ec3fb69.jpg

Total cost was right around 200$... I have since ordered a reverse camera for 20$ (head unit is pre wired for it) a little unit that allows for watching DVDs while driving something like 15$, and am going to order the kit from ********* that allows for use of steering wheel volume controls.

I paid a company called Jam Master Car Audio to put it in, I didn't feel confident enough to do it at the time but I would do what excorcist posted.

I would also stick with a Pioneer radio. But I wouldn't get the AVH-X2800BS like mine. It's a great radio but the only complaint I have is the key pad rattles after several months. It's gets really annoying while driving
