    Hey guys,

New member to the forum here. Getting a new Tacoma soon and hoping to get some advice from the vets.

First - does anyone have any first hand listening to the stock system on the new Tacoma vs the JBL option? Is the stock system pretty decent? I like clean loud music - but I don't need a booming system like I did in my younger years :)

Second - dealer says this truck has "premium entune" which is same as JBL - however - I do not see the JBL logo in the middle bottom of the screen pics.

I see this logo on the screen of all limited models with JBL. Does the premium entune have upgraded speakers, amp, sub like the JBL package?

    Thanks for any help!

From what i've read the entune base is just a 6 speaker setup attached to the head-display. The premium adds better speakers a sub/amp/crossover.
Whichever I end up with I am swapping out the 6 speakers in the first month with Clarions then will add sub/amp/cross down the road. I've always really liked the sound of Clarions, particularly their tweeters.

You can replace just speakers with better ones for $250 or so and it will make a noticeable difference, IMO.

I don't have experience with this in the Tacoma, but I have had experience with other vehicles. Generally the difference is subtle, and the mid system is often enough for most people, but I like the higher level systems. Like you I'm not after booming thumping but there's a depth to adding a bit of sub to the mix.

He's bullshitting you to sell what's on his lot. Look at the build sheet. It either has JBL or it doesn't, there's no "same as". Not saying the Premium Entune is bad, but if you want the higher level OEM system then that is what you should get.

When they say Premium Entune, they are actually talking about the Entune Premium System, if that makes sense.
    Let me clarify.
Toyota has a few different Entune levels, such as Entune Plus and Entune Premium. All of the TRD and Limited come with Premium, and that gives you integrated navigation and App Suite.
Entune Plus which is standard in the SR5 does not have the app suite and you get Scout connected gps.

Now, to further complicate thngs, you can get Entune Premium with JBL, that is where you get the upgraded speakers.
I myself have not had the pleasure to hear the JBL system, but the stock system is not terrible.

Edit: To avoid any confusion, The Limited has JBL standard. Also, the other one I couldn´t remember at the time was Entune Audio, which is standard on the SR.

I tested the JBL and it's very nice! Deep bass and clear sound. IMO its totally worth the extra couple bucks. I hope to pick her up today...

My 2014 Taco was standard entune. My 2016 has JBL. Night and day difference. Bass, clarity and volume so much better!

    this!!

Entune is the software in the headunit, JBL is the sound system. So whenever they talk about entune it only pertains to the headunit.

You would be crazy not to get the JBL system. I test drove one without it and the sound was ok, and we could've got a great deal on that one. But then I got in a limited and there is no comparison. The sound quality, bass, etc. in the JBL was so much better. In all, we paid more and waited an extra month just to have the JBL!

my 11 Tacoma came with the standard radio and I couldn't hear it at highway speeds. My 12 fj had the jbl system it was like night and day compared to the Tacoma. The JBL radio is also easier to use than the aftermarket radio I replaced in the Tacoma. As a result, I ordered the JBL system in the Tacoma I currently have ordered.

I've heard both. I picked JBL for a reason. It sounds fantastic.

Like others mentioned 'entune premium' meas integrated NAV - basically stock speakers.

I have had 3 tacos, 2 had JBL and one did not. I would always pay the extra to have a factory premium audio system, The JBL system out of all the cars and trucks I have owned has blown me away. I was looking at the TRD Pro but it did not have JBL so I do not want it. Some factory options are better then aftermarket when they are specifically designed for the truck.
I will be trading in my High Country Duramax next week for a 16' Limited Taco as those JBL come standard, They sound better then the Bose in my silverado!

I guess it all depends on what you plan on doing and what your into. Some people like upgrading all new speakers with amps and more bass. If your just going to upgrade the speakers and head unit then to me it seems pointless to spend the extra money. If you want good sound out of the box then I say go for it and you won't be disappointed. I have the premium JBL and it sounds great to me. Just my 2 penny's.

If you plan on upgrading the system get the Entune Premium. If you don't, go with the JBL. I had the JBL in my 16' limited and it sounds great. Upgrading it is a bitch though.

I traded in the Limited for a 17' Pro that has the Entune premium system. It doesn't sound bad at all but it's obviously not as good as the JBL. I'm ok with that because I plan on upgrading the speakers & adding an amp. I don't care about a sub.

Audio is very subjective to each person. I honestly don't think the JBL package is worth the cost.

7 upgraded speakers, 440W amp, and the DSP for $600 seems like a steal.

Again, it's subjective to each person. Just because it has all that doesn't mean it's a good sound or worth it.

I haven't really heard anything bad from the owners that sprung for the JBL. While i've seen/heard lot's of folks upgrading from the non-JBL.

Of course sound is subjective, but for $600, and not having to tear up your interior for an install - the cost is pretty minimal considering the overall cost of the truck.
