It's been good! I completely forgot about the "500 rule" - which he said many of the professionals have moved to a "400 rule".

Damn I thought I was younger than both you and @TacoVio but I've been done with both of those classes for a 3 semesters now

 

Uh oh... I have no hundred rule.

 

One of the things both the Nature/Landscape and the Night photography presentations covered which I didn't know how to use, is the histogram feature of the camera. It makes sense now.

 

I am trying to read up on how to interpret a histogram now... dont know anything about that either.

 

While the camera may have said the exposure it recommended was good, you can really tell where the exposure fell and if you can stop up/down anymore to get the exposure closer to correct.

Ready to spend some more money? You're going to need a ND filter to blur water like that in the middle of the day. I would recommend a 6-stop ND filter because 3 won't always cut it and a 10-stop, while awesome, is quite hard to see through and your camera will have trouble focusing with it. You'll also need a tripod, but you might already have that.

 

Long exposure is aweomse, I used to dabble in astrophotography.

Horsehead and Orion Nebulae, 1 hour exposure through a 3" refractor scope. One day when I have my own back yard I'll get another AP rig.
