sorry if this is buried in another thread, but...

As a new Tacoma owner, is it normal for it to bog down going up a small hill? It will downshift to 3rd and shift up/down/up/down to hold 55 mph for a two mile 5% grade? I've got a '17 with less than 1,000 miles so am really not experienced with it. It's totally different than the '03 4Runner I had before that would downshift to 4 and stay there.

Any thoughts, suggestions, thread links appreciated!

Yup, these 6speed trannys are a shifty bunch. Just trying to keep low rpms for fuel mileage. I just learn to work my throttle more to get the response I want. Make sure to get the tranny fluid checked if it's auto, many including me, discovered low ATF fluid.

Normal for the new Tacoma? Apparently.

Normal for a vehicle?.....I'm just not going to stir anything up....

Thank God they make the Tacoma with a manual transmission is all I can say.

I live near the mountains and this was my only frustration with the truck. The TSB (which you already have) helped but it still happens occasionally on less steep grades. I find the more I drive in the mountains the less it prematurely upshifts on climbs. If I haven't taken it in the mountains for awhile it can revert back to the "shift loop" on climbs.
Cruise will sometimes hold lower gears better but if not, S mode is your friend!
Mine does well now in the mountains on steep, long grades but will still do this on less steep, hilly terrain sometimes.
How many miles do you have? Mine did show improvement after a few thousand miles.

Yes, I agree, shift to S mode when encountering hills, or give it lots of gas and keep the revs up.
