    So you want to convert yours?

    @Matic :thumbsup:
    http://lmgtfy.com/?q=tacoma+5+speed+manual+swap

    I'm literally the first link on Google. There is an FAQ section and links to all info you can imagine. I put a lot of personal time to organize it as best I could. Don't be lazy. :evil: Read the whole thread, and you will NOT have a single question. You can even skim it as long as you go through every page. It would be like studying before test. The subject is the swap and the test would be the physical work. As far as your question, I don't understand you question. Please read your question or statement you typed out loud. If you are thinking the evap location some how effects the 5 speed swap you need to read and research a lot more. You don't touch the evap at all. Tacomaworld has a lot of misinformation on it because its such a large community. People always want to put in their two cents on a subject. Don't believe everything on ANY forum till you do your own research (ex. Your evap question). A few like @Matic will direct you to the right person for that specific subject. I'll be happy to help you if you are truly interested in the swap.

    The part about the evap was something I read on a thread and someone had mentioned that for the 02 with the evap under the bed you'd have to use a 02 with it in the same location or 03-04 models parts to keep from having even more wiring problem because of where toyota changed some of the wiring . And I'm definitely interested in doing the swap if I can get all the parts and knowledge to do the wiring part all the rest I can do . It's just hard to find parts in WV the biggest part of the rusted out tacomas were crushed when they done the buy back deal and for some reason the wrecked ones end up in other states I guess cause can't find any around in the junkyards.

    The only issue with EVAP would be when swapping the ECU. It has been very well researched and understood not to swap between years. If you have an 02 Auto, you should find an 02 5-Speed ECU. In theory, you should be able to swap between 01-02 OR 03-04. However, you will (like you side) have to do your own research as to what wires need to be cut, switch, or crossed. Jeff at TTORA has only made ECU diagrams for the same years 02-02, 03-03, etc. Car-parts.com will be your best friend for the next year. Ultimately, it is much cheaper and cost effective to find a 2002 5 speed extra cab doner. Which is what a few members did. Let me know if you have any other inquires. I'll try to direct you in the right direct.

    Also, Toyota changed more than just the Evap between years. Which is why it was highly recommended that you swap between same years of different transmissions. The other thing I wanted to add was that you can have your truck drive-able without even touching the ECU. You can just wire up the Park Neutral Safety Switch and drive around with a check engine light. I did this till I could find a 2002 ECU. California laws are very strict which is why I had to do a ECU swap.

    Ok thanks guess I'll start looking for a 02 donor then . I assume the only bad with that is your truck will start in gear correct?

    You can have all the Toyota OEM features. I have the sensors but never wired up my clutch safety switch. Basically, there are two sensors on the clutch pedal you will need to wire up if you don't want the truck to start till you push the clutch. For the swap it's just a switch to the Auto's Park Neutral Safety Switch, but using your foot (Clutch). I was taught to always take my transmission out of gear before starting so I didn't wire it.
