i havnt noticed gains like the 6cyl guys have when they use this drop in filter. other than i can use this filter forever thats the only gain i see. my mpg is the same as well as power and idle. if there is a difference its so minor i dont notice it. have u guys seen a difference?

people say better airflow when cruising, the trucks not working as hard to get air its more free. did you remove the secondary charcoal filter?
i did and it helped a little

When cruising, the main contributer to engine pumping loss, is the closed throttle vavle. at 20% throttle (or whatever your at when at cruise), the TV is not opened much at all. The pistons going down to suck in the A/F are pulling against it.....Not the air filter. Given the square inches of surface area of the filter, Its invisible to the engine, unless under WOT. In fact, a guy on here actually dynoed his truck with the OEM filter removed, vs. the filter installed, and IIRC, there was only a couple hp difference.

what about that secondary filter removed? did the guy who did the dyno take that off? i could imagine that it would act by itself as a filter because its so damn condensed and thick looking

No idea. I know they have no impact on the 4.0, but I dont know about the 2.7.

interesting. do you remember the member so i can ask him/her those questions? cause thats interesting. i know that you can only get a certain amount of air into the cylinders without f/i, and the few extra hp would explain that cause the pistons at high rpm's would be cycling at great speeds which an open intake would help getting that air there a little quicker.

this is why i want to get a scangauge, they arent 100% on say hp rating but doing some tests like this would be really fun!

I noticed no gains whatsoever, with the 2nd filter out and the pro dry. Lifetime use is the real benefit.

By winter, my mpgs are down in the 20~21 territory.

^thanks man. Read it and looks like a little gain in torwue but hp was lost. I'm looking more into torque and willing to sacrific some horses. Kinda would like to know my current reading might have to finally talk myself into a scangauge

No difference here either. I got rid of the K&N though, so I have a little more piece-of-mind knowing there is no filter oil in there. :)

This is really the only real benefit to any reusable filter...and that's good enough for me.

Not much difference either. I have actually put back in my OEM filter. The only difference I have noticed is less intake roar with the Toyota(Denso) filter. I chart my fuel use on Fuelly so if a trend develops it will be noticed.

I did other mods first, 1 by 1 to get a feel at the pump what they did. My AfE improved power, but lost mpg. One thing else i did was a 0% throttle clutch letout sorta test. Stock it could kill the engine easily, with the filter it will not die when let out at a seady rate.

I might pull the filter to get mpg back/ sorta retest. No regrets buying it though.
