Or get a connector from a junkyard. Appears older cars use the same connector.

the way I read it, he wants to add a wire to the existing connector.

Yeah, but if I nab a junkyard connector I can pull out one of the junkyard connector's wires to add to the existing one. ;)

I'll have to see. I'm a bit apprehensive about all this because I'm gonna feel dumb if it doesn't work, but at the same time EVERY part number and tech manual I can find says that's the pinout, it's just not wired on an SR.

Extract the pin with the wire from the junk connector and splice to the wire.

I wouldn't feel dumb if it doesn't work, you just don't want to short something. If you put the fog relay in the fuse block, and touch that pin to ground, it should click the relay on. Save a trip to the junkyard by probing the cavity with a paper clip. I see it is pin 26 on the main ecu diagram I have, question is I don't know if what you are showing in the photo is the main ecu connector.

I would feel dumb if it lets the magic smoke out. :p

Talked to my father who is a lifetime electronics engineer, he said that a good idea would be to stick in a resistor instead of a paper clip, with hopes that if pin 26 is magically some super important thing that should never be grounded, the circuit protection will have more of an opportunity to safely blow a fuse before anything happens. He's a smart guy, I would have just jumpered that sucker straight to ground and prayed a little.

Too late to try anything tonight, but I will report back and I will definitely do a write up on it with part numbers and all that if I'm successful.

It comes down to: 1) what is your time worth and 2) do you want something that looks clean and professional or something that looks ghetto? Seems like a lot of effort to go to the junk yard just for a piece of wire when you can buy a bag of pins for a couple of dollars. Plus, he said "...no add-a-fuse or splicing".

Do you have the stock number for the pins ? $2 highly doubtful. Nothing is $2 from toyota. I could inline splice it with shrink and you would probably never notice. Ever put a maestro in with I data link harness for the new $1200 pioneer radios with steering wheel interface or any other aftermarket radio install for that matter with maestro ? Get back with us how many splices are on the harness lol ! You're funny.

Right now my "best guess" is that the PN is 82998-24300, for a single extra wire that will clip into the harness.

    $11 from partznet.

Sounds crazy at first, but I checked w/ the chain of salvage yards I usually use, the closest yard to me only has up to '06 Toyotas. A much further one has a 2011 Corolla which is probably my best shot, but it's yard date was late July, which means it could be pretty well picked over by now.
Honestly after the gas to the yard (farther yard with the 2011 is 75 miles!!), admission to the yard ($3 to get in, x2 if I bring my friend), and however much I convince them to let me buy a length of wire for? It might be a wash.

Back to testing with a 1kohm with a paper clip maybe? :)

You do realize there are millions of different types of pins, keepers, etc in use today and you think that shit shack part will fit ????? Wow.
If you read Toyotas factory service manuals they even have a method spelled out for splicing.

I wish you could read as well as you can smack talk. Re-read my initial post: "You can buy pins for connector at most electronics store, such as Radio Shack. You will have to check, but it is probably this type of pin. If you can't determine the type of pin used in the connector, you may need to buy a pin extractor tool so you can remove one of the existing wires." Based on the picture, it appears to be the same style of connector, so yes, I think it will fit. But as I said, he would have to check first.

Guys calm down, it's not worth getting excited over.

Cactus, the pin pitch on what you linked looks pretty big- these pins are like, literally a millimeter or less wide. Thank you for the link, but I don't think that will work.
My thumb got in the way but this should give you a sense of scale. The pins are maybe 1/32" across?

    ANYWAYS,
It's looking more promising! I haven't switched it to ground yet to see if a relay clicks, but I busted out the DVM and checked the terminal as per the repair manual:
She's giving me 11.something V with the ignition off (and no fog light switch installed which is close enough) so there's a signal there!

Right now I need something slender enough to get down that hole. Paperclips are too thick, believe it or not.

Use a strand of wire or center of a coax works for me a lot of times.

Sorry to go way back in time guys but I'm wondering if anybody has any idea how to get a hold of the connector for this fog light switch? None of the junk yards around my area have an IQ or TC to steal the harness out of. I assume there's no part # for the connector itself as its a part of a whole much larger electrical harness.

    Thanks for your help.

@tehsexehnes I've been looking for that connector for years now still no luck. I know many scions are prewired for it including FR-S(now 86) and 2nd gen xB.
    Good luck.

Do you have the relay installed in the fuse/relay compartment. If it didn't come with fogs its not there. All the wiring is good to the relay socket I have found out from probing before. If not you could just put a resistor of proper coil value across those terminals in there for the time being and monitor the voltage.

Oh yeah, my little hack works! Lights up the dash icon for "fog lights" and everything!!

Man, that was a serious pain in my ass though... so I'm testing it... it keeps registering 12V high when it shouldn't... this would mean the fogs would always be on, which is wrong!

"Why the f***motherf***ing ****** thing keeps ***** going high" I'm saying to myself...

I was testing with the door open.:frusty: The fogs are courtesy lights that light up when you open the door.:frusty:

(Ghost edit like a year later... as far as I can tell it was actually because I had done some un-plug/re-plugs on the body ECU while the door was open which made some funny business happen.)

:anonymous: I felt REALLY stupid after cussing up a storm over that one.

So now my last order of business is finding the appropriate wire terminal, and then I can put all this together!:bananadance:
