image.jpg I had an icon aal installed with the overload left in. I had considered removing it for a little less height but decided against it as i have some weight in bed. I just noticed one of the retaining clips is hitting the overload not allowing it to fully follow up onto the leaf pack. Just wondering if it would be possible to remove or move the clip or "nipple" under (is this a pin that goes through the leaf?). If not has anyone heard of a low profile or upside down clamp? Or have any ideas. It is holding the 2nd through 6th leaf. Any suggestions appreciated image.jpg

That's the cradle that comes with the progressive leafs. That pin is permanently attached to the leaf above it. Personally I wouldnt cut that one off. It holds the whole group of leaves together. During the install you cut one of the factory cradles off to fit the new leaf pack in.

Ok so its connected to just the bottom leaf and the sides of the clip keep the leafs from sliding side to side. Wasnt sure if it went through each leaf. Any problems with having overload rest on the clip? Thanks again for the response

Yes, only attached to the one. The other leaves actually slide against each other as they flex. I know with the icon leafs they instruct to remove the overload. Not sure if that will cause any trouble when loaded. You can also see another pin at the end of the leaf above the overload that holds the rubber pad. That will hit the overload also.

Yes but i have almost 500lbs in bed including shell so i just decided to leave it in. Seems pretty smooth. Probably wouldn't be if I didn't have load. The "other pin" cannot hit overload because of the clip closer to axle. That's why i was wondering if i could relocate it so all the weight wouldn't be on that pin/clip

I honestly dont know if its alright to remove that cradle. The only way to remove it is to take a grinder and cut the pin and cradle off. You would have to seperate the leaves to get to it.

Can you take a pic that shows the whole rear end of the pack?

You are fine leaving the overload in with the 3 leaf AAL, and you're right for that load.

Removing the overload when that 3 leaf is installed results in a 10% decrease in weight capacity.

Im assuming your looking for the rear factory cradle. There should be one. Factory comes with 2 cradles in the rear. One needs cut off to fit the 3 leaf. I just dont know how safe it would be to remove the cradle that comes with the 3 leaf.

    Yes.

I just don't quite grasp why his overload makes contact. I had the same setup and didn't have this issue.

My buddy just installed one on his truck last week. I'll check tomorrow and see what it looks like.

    He's a 2008 but his leaf pack is a 2014 or 2015 take off.

My 3 leaf cradle is in the exact same spot. I just looked at it to check. If I had the overload in it would also be making contact.

Im looking at the install instruction sheet that came with my icon 3 leaf. Step 5 says remove factory overload spring, this will not be reused.

Ill bet that because they designed the leaf pack to not be used with the factory overload that the cradle (clamp) wasnt thought to be an issue since the overload wouldnt be there.

After looking at mine, if you removed that cradle, there wouldnt be anything holding the lower leaves together. You cant put one anywhere else because the overload extends past the lower leaves.

I would suggest emailing icon and ask them about it. They may have a solution, or just say that its not designed to be used with the overload.

Im glad you brought this up though, because I was considering reinstalling the overload. I didnt think about the cradle being an issue.

When i got aal installed i took everything out besides shell because i wanted to see how it rode. It felt pretty smooth but never felt it settle without weight because I added tool box, tools ext. same day. I wanted to take it out because i wanted a little less height in rear but wouldnt work for my situation. Also have been hearing/ reading a lot of people putting it back in but I think most of these people are like me or towing. I feels really good but for me but without shell, tools it probably would be opposite. Seriously thanks again. And if you come up with any solution for yourself that may work for myself or others plese post.
