Welcome to 2005. That's is why tail gate reinforcement plates exist.

Seems like the tailgates bend well before the cables break and it looks like the cables handled all the loads that was thrown at it in this thread, which seemed to go upwards of 700+ lbs. As someone previously mentioned, it's more about load distribution. While not a complete solution, one could use a thick cut plywood (or other materials/thicknesses) to lay on the tailgate to aid in distributing the weight.

FWIW, I've driven my sport ATV up and down the Gen 2 tailgate numerous times without issue. Approximate weight, with me on it is 550 lb+. If the Gen 3 is more rigid, then better yet.

If anyone in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area wants a good ramp, I should sell mine. I sold the truck so I no longer need it. Here's the one I have. PM me if interested.

How did you get the bike up there without falling through the rungs?

I ride it up there. Been riding dirt bikes since I was 7 so for me it's trivial.

I envy you. I'm a late comer to dirt bike riding, so do not have the nerve to ride up a ramp like that, fearing that I might get unbalanced and needing to put a leg down.

Practice riding your bike as slow as possible without putting a foot down. Do this on flat dirt to start with. It's a really good extercise to teach balance, throttle and brake control. After that, work up to small rocks, dips like a small ditch, small tree stumps, etc. Basics count.

As for the ramp, you can walk a bike up it depending on the weight and your strength. The picture is misleading. The ramp is pretty long and not as steep as it looks. The ramp is wide too, so pretty easy to walk up the middle with a bike on one side or the other. I just ride up the middle. Not into pushing when I can just power up and brake down.

Hey folks, just joined. This thread got me thinking as I just picked up a 2017 TRD 4x4. Love the truck and don't want to bust it. I bought it specifically to tackle space problems of condo life and a 1 car garage to load my 2010 BMW s1000rr for travel and track as well as a seadoo. I have shopped around for loading systems because I don't have the strongest back and no one to help loading. So far I have contacted loadall.com to see about their loading system.
It's pricey at 2400.00. However I might have to do that. No more short bed tail gate problems and I can ride it up myself. It may take a while but I will load pics when done. Unless someone has yet a better idea. Removing the tailgate and putting the bike diagonal won't work for me.
    Thanks for the great info.

Anyone know how heavy the tailgate is removed? Just the raw weight of the tailgate itself, not load rating.

So, this was my solution. Loadall ramp from loadall.com.
Love it. No weight on the tailgate at all.
Pricey though. 2500.00. However condo life is tight on space. That's why I did this. Plus, I can ride the bike up myself. Also..rain tested. No slipping all.1011161441.jpg 1011161444.jpg 1011161443.jpg 1011161538.jpg 1012161318.jpg
