DuraGloss 111/601

Harpolith, did you apply the DG111 and 601 by hand or machine? I noticed the directions say use a cotton applicator but I don't have one for my DA polisher.

 

I do it by hand with one of those Meguiars yellow foam applicators. Just like the free ones that come in a tin of wax. Or I use a cheapo MF one from the auto parts store. I toss them when I'm done. It takes so little time, really. And then I'm more sure that I don't miss any spots. But that's just me.

You can go ahead and apply by machine if you want to. Foam is fine. Are you going to apply 601 first and then the 111?

In case you didn't know... You can mix it 4 parts 111 and 1 part 601 if you want to. But only mix about an ounce or two. It doesn't take much at all. Apply thin.

 

Hey Harpo, could you put 3 dime size drops of #111 and 1 dime size drop of #601 on your microfiber or sponge pad to apply on the paint?

 

It would actually be 4 drops 111 and 1 drop of 601-- Yeah I've read about guys doing this. I've not done it.

I'd rather put 40 drops of 111 and 10 drops of 601 into a bowl, stir it up, and then apply to the pad pre-mixed as needed. Just so there's no doubt in my mind that it's 100% mixed. But there's more than one way to skin a cat, I guess.

Harpolith how well does this stuff work? Seems like extra steps that other products don't have. Kind of seems like a pain in the ass...lol.

 

Harpo... I like the way the guy uses a ruler and puts 1/4" of #601 and 1" of #101 or #105 or #111, or #501 in a squeeze bottle. Those clear bottles in cake decorating at Walmart would work for that like someone mentioned before.

 

Trust me. It works. The durability is insane. It doesn't bead tiny beads like collinite or other carnaubas. But you can definitely tell that it's hydrophobic. And it's crazy glossy.

The 601 bonding agent speeds up the curing process so you can top immediately instead of waiting the typical 12-24 hours. It also increases durability. It kind of works like the 2 part epoxy process.

 

Interesting. I always hated products that took 12-24 hours to cure since I don't have a garage.

 

Pretty sure 111/601 would surprise the shit outta you.

If you like that sealant look- DG has it. I really like it on trucks. And There's nothing better for light colored vehicles.

 

Sorry man. No way am I going back to sealants after using a coating. Gloss coat takes less effort than the Duragloss. If I had a garage I would be using crystal serum light right now.

Just something cool to note... Something I wrote over on AG.

"When I mix the 111/601, I've noticed little puffs of steam/condensation coming out the top of the bottle. You have to look very closely. If i squeeze the bottle very lightly, and hold it against a dark background, a tiny puff of steam/condensation will come out. There's definitely some kind of chemical reaction taking place. I just assume that whatever reaction is taking place lends itself to what this stuff is supposed to do (i.e. part of the curing process). I also assume that were I to have some left over and let it sit for a week, that chemical reaction will most likely be done doing its thing. Does that mean it won't work correctly? I really don't know. But I do know i can't go wrong by only mixing what I'll use in one session."

 

Put Duragloss on my wife's Rav4 and had about 2 ounces left. I mixed it 4 to 1 but forgot you stated I wouldn't need that much. So I went back out and put another coat on. I still have about an ounce left in screw top bottle. Wonder how long it would last?

This may not be a big deal but when I finished compounding and finishing the RAV4 I went over the whole car with WG Uber waterless wash to get the compound/polish off before applying Duragloss. Does Uber have waxes or anything in it that could have been left behind that could have hurt the Duraglosses bonding to the paint?

 

Not seeing the WG Uber waterless wash on autogeek, maybe I am over looking. Did you make it waterless from the WG uber rinseless?

 

Yes, the Uber rinseless wash.

 

Uber has some polymers in it. So there is potential for bonding issues. Usually I do an IPA wipe down. Lately I have been using a panel wipe by Optimum that I got in a kit with Gloss coat.
