lol.....so says the individual that has never used either feature. My assumption based on "TRD SPORT" in your info.

Also, based on your later responses...you are completely isolating a particular situation..ie ice or your typical commute on winter streets/roads. If that is where the Tacoma trd offroad was supposed to shine, then it would be equipped with AWD.

MTS and Crawl Control were primarily developed for trails and off road use, and they DO function as intended. I've personally used them on several occasions.

Stop posting ignorant comments....you're making people dumber.

I appreciate the vote of confidence, but I seriously doubt my comments can make you dumber than you are.

Sounds like you need a new option on the MTS knob: reading comprehension.

I've used MTS and Crawl for downhill stuff. Way easier using it then having to work the brakes. I've tried crawl to get me out if this part of the trail. Yeah I could have went left a bit and never hit the slick but fuck it. I had it on the frame lol. Wheels barely touched the ground. The locker didn't help and Crawl won't work if the tires aren't touching the ground. I hit the same part coming back and it went flawlessly. She loved it though =)

Idk if the rear differential is same size as the 2nd Gen prerunners and 4x4s... but you could add an Eaton electronic locker... or a Detroit locker... that would get you the locker from the TRD OR and a much better one at that...

I was just reading about the Harrop Eaton ELocker over on IH8MUD an hour ago. Sounds like an awesome option.

I added a truetrac myself due to cost vs the electronic locker (1900 installed by a diff shop.. I paid 1100 with a complete rebuild). The automatic Detroit locker functions alot like the G80 in the Chevy z71s.... but it's road manners get squirrly in wet weather and snow... so I went limited slip... I love it.. I have gone places I couldn't before with an sr5 open diff... it's great...

I got the OR with MTS and crawl control and doubt i will be using them. The truck has to be In 4lo to use these systems and I find that 99.9 percent of the time 4 high is all i need.

Thanks everyone for all the useful information. From what I can see, I'll be just fine without the Crawl or MTS for what I want to do. I liked the interior of the Limited more than the OR even though I know I can do my own custom interior for cheaper so I think I made the right choice.

Haha, A new option on the MTS knob? Nice try, but that doesn't really make sense....think about it...
Your prototypical reading comprehension comment holds no weight here, based on my single post. Very original.

    Let me elaborate for you.

As I previously stated... Your "useless gimmick" comment is garbage information that you are regurgitating based on something you probably read somewhere. Not actual experience. That makes you ignorant...and in fact, you are spreading false information.

You then go on about how great traction control is/was in your past vehicles. Specifically in snow. The irony is, MTS is a variation of traction control. It's just geared towards a different purpose/function. However, I agree with you in regards to AWD being superior in snow vs. a 4x4 tacoma, but you have to admit that there are situations where the tacoma out shines an AWD vehicle. That does not mean that MTS is useless in snowy conditions. There's a handful of vehicles that incorporate the option of different traction/driving settings, based on specific substrate. I guess they are all useless gimmicks as well?

Experience goes a long way, just like your experience with traction control in your past vehicles. Generally speaking, traction control is one of the greatest developments in automobile history...has probably saved countless lives. You just fail to recognize that MTS is a form of traction control.

Speaking of the (cliche) reading comprehension. Please read my first post again, as well as your response. When I stated that your false information is making people dumber. I am technically calling out your irrational "gimmick" comment...so your false information does not apply to me. Thus, it is a comprehension failure on your part.

Of course, of course, how could I be so misguided?! MTS is the best thing since sliced bread, no one should leave their house without a solid helping of crawl control, you are a god among men, and your mall crawling leaves us all in awe. Rest easy knowing we all aspire to be as cool as you and your useless gimmicks.

Please read my last post again and let it sink in. In no way did I state that MTS is the "best" nor did I ever mention crawl control.

There's nothing to sink in. You missed 99% of what I wrote to the OP, found a sentence that hit your ego just right, and went off on a ridiculous tangent. Business as usual.

Agreed. I use it in soft stuff mostly.

I havent found a situation that I actually needed crawl control, except one small offshoot by Laurel Lakes in Mammoth with a steep downgrade.

MTS is kinda like cheating though, and I use it only when needed.

Not going to read the whole thread, but will jump in because that's what one does on a forum.

I don't know that MTS and CC are complete gimmicks; they have their uses. However, to the OP, I wouldn't worry about them at all if I were in your situation. I agree with 0210 in that you will be able to do almost anything "moderate to easy" without any of that stuff. If you find yourself limited by not having traction aids, then get an ARB rear locker.

I have spoken (typed) but added no value.

    My work here is done.

    Enjoy your truck.

Call MTS a gimmick all you want but it made my recent trip feel like I was cheating... and I liked it.

You need to go back and do more homework. Heated seats are available in the OR and Sport models. It comes with the PT package. I am sitting in my OR truck right now looking at the heated seat buttons

Man, leave this poor little fella alone. He already made the mistake of buying a Sport over the OR. There is no logical argument for not buying the OR. I do not understand why Toyota offer these trucks at the same price. It just shows how much Mark Up there is for trucks.

They are, indeed. Not cheap, but no need for air lines or compressor. Immediate actuation, no externals on the axle like OEM elocker.
