I have written them all down in a separate forum. The real problems. Others are just complaints. The complaints feel more legit now that the truck is having mechanical issues. Honestly man too many to type.

They certainly are very nice vehicles. They just need to work the bugs out.

Ya there's plenty of literature, look in the what I paid thread. Many a guys with HH package (premium) as you have and loaded up OR's got theirs for $500 over invoice. Not to mention Toyota is offering a $1000 military rebate, $750 college grad, so ya most people get $1-2k off their trucks. They gave you $33k trade, a new one can be had for $36-37k. Lets say you ask $35k for yours, no educated buyer is going to buy your used truck for $2k less than new. Sorry bud.

Here's a certified LB OR (even more demand than your SB) with tech and premium package, with 8k miles dealer is asking $34.5k.

    https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/detail/674694661/overview/

Without even looking hard here's some BRAND NEW ORs with the same equipment as your's for $36-37k and thats before even negotiating.

    https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/detail/674684896/overview/

    https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/detail/674035764/overview/

So ya your $33k trade was high end, your not going to get much more even Private Party again go visit the what I paid thread you'll see guys getting your truck for $35-36k all day. Either your upside down and you just refuse to take the loss and deal or you just don't understand the concept of buying a new car and the loss you take, coupled with a truck that already has high resale. Again, this is my 5th tacoma, sold 2 private party and the last 3 on trade, not new to this.

I'm pretty sure your truck's invoice was just shy of 31,000... add in the "fully loaded" nonsense that cost you an extra 4 grand but doesn't raise the value of the vehicle more than a measly thousand in the eyes of a dealer... where does that leave us?

Their first dealer was perfectly fair, their highest bid was more than air, what's the problem? Plenty of other vehicles out there that take close to a 10G hit just driving them off the lot.

Exactly he was offered high trade in/just at invoice on his truck and $3k less than a new one. That actually was a good deal, especially with tax credit if his state allows and what he could negotiate on the F150, but no who knows what he owes on the Taco either, which is why he might be expecting more. From my experience he's gonna have a hard time selling it for anymore than what they offered him on trade.

A family member of mine just bought a 2016 in the same area he lives.. so I know the pricing well. Their final offer for trade-in was higher than I see some 2016s selling for brand new around there.. Does he think they'll pay him back the interest on his loan?:smack:

These things here along with wranglers and tundras sell for WAYYY more than they are worth around these parts. People are stupid here when it comes to buying new. I realized that the trade was good from my offer that I wrote in this thread, but they weren't willing to negotiate on the truck that was not worth 37 thousand to me. Or to the market. At all. One state over the same truck is 31k. So truly that's why this thread even exists

usually none of the stuff you changed from stock (led interior, steps..etc) matters

in fact it can reduce the value. I know if I am looking around and I see a vehicle that has signs of
someone digging around into it, changing things, I walk...no telling if it was a perfect job, or crappy one.

I was about to say. When I considered a used F150 I saw 2 2013 limiteds (red leather right?) with 30-40k miles for $30-31k was tempting at the time given that's what I paid for my taco that has way less content. GLWS

I'm new here, but I still find it amusing that at some basic level all internet forums are the same...

TLDR; /I traded a Wrangler and got a good deal, whole process took 2hrs.

BTW to keep it slightly OT, here is how my negotiation went last week:
    - I stopped by a local dealer that had a couple of different options for me to test drive and asked for a salesman. 10-mins later, after no one showed up to help me I headed back the person at the front desk and said that I had to go and to have someone call me when they could spare some time. She apologized and immediately flagged-down someone walking by. I was fully prepared to leave.
    - I told him I wanted to test drive a few vehicles and that I had a Jeep to trade. I had printed out the stock codes for the vehicles I was interested so I handed him the papers and off he went to get the vehicles pulled. A few minutes later he handed me the keys to the first vehicle and said to take as long as I want. I gave him the keys to my jeep to work up a trade-in number.
    - I ended up driving 3 trucks: a 4-cyl, auto, SR5; a 6-cyl, auto, SR5; and a 6-cyl, TRD Sport (all of them were access cabs).
    - It took about 45mins to test them all and when I got back I immediately eliminated the 4-cyl and then very reluctantly eliminated the TRD Sport (it was a 2017 and they were less willing to negotiate a price below invoice).
    - So that left the 6-cyl SR5. It was black and had a decent trim package (compared to my Wrangler) auto trans, power windows, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, back-up cam (not sure how I feel about that...), bed liner, towing package, etc.
    - We discussed price for literally 2-mins and agreed on a number a little below $29K. Then we got stuck on the Jeep trade-in - their initial offer was $18K. Truthfully that's sort of what I expected, but I figured they could do better so I said thanks, but no thanks. The salesman said just give me your sign-on-the-dotted-line-today number and I'll take it back to my manager.
    - 5-mins later I shook hands with the GM at $20K. Considering that I paid $25.5K 2.5yrs ago for it that seemed like a pretty good number to me (2D Willys, manual, with half-doors and NO AC, 34K miles in great shape).

The whole process was 2hrs start to finish including financing.

I have to agree with this rationale. I bought my 2015 brand new because I watched prices of 2 year old Tacomas with 60k miles on them over a couple year time period. The used Tacomas were always about $2k or maybe $3k less than brand new. To me it wasn't worth that little money to buy a pre-owned truck. I'd rather have brand new, with new warranty, new parts, and no wear and tear on it. If anyone is going to drive it hard it'll be me - not the last guy. So for me anyhow, it was worth $2k-$3k to get a brand spanking new truck instead of a 2 year old one with 60k miles on it.

It's always hardest to sell a brand new (used) item because that's when it depreciates the most (perception wise at least). If a new in the box item costs nearly the same why would anyone want the used one? Plus, those shopping for used cars are looking for deals - and saving minimally versus new isn't a deal.

This is how it should go down. Sounds like your dealer was in business to sell and took their business seriously. Negotiations don't have to be like hostage stand offs. Just shoot numbers and either take them or don't.

Damn straight. Hell, I'm a salesman. I sell high end luxury products. And I'm just saying it shouldn't take 4 hours to negotiate a simple one item transaction. Someone is wasting someone else's time if you're spending 4 hours dickering over the price of a single item. If they aren't willing to offer more, and you aren't willing to take their offer, leave. In your example I think they offered you a fair trade value all things considered!
