I'm going to rent a cement truck and drive up Middle St Vrain/Coney Flats slowly pouring concrete out the back for the entire loop.

That way I can drive my GF's Altima up there and save on gas.

Don't forget to call it "just a skim coat" to justify it.

Edit: Then you could take a chain saw to the Plane wreck trail.

Top of Heart Attack Hill on Kelly Flats, the very last obstacle used to be a wheel stander and sent more than a couple full sizes as well as short wheel bases, ass over tea kettle to the bottom. I was part of the crew that hauled bags of quickrete and water and did the "pour" one day several years ago. That has been the one and only time we have been requested, by the Forest Service, to do something like that though.
The Kalifornia thing might be totally different though.

If this Jeep club was asked by BLM to do this maintenance, just post up the communication for everyone to read, mic drop, then tell everyone to GFY.

That came to mind, as did Elephant Hill. That trail was way more difficult when I ran it in 2013 versus 2015 after the NPS decided to grade the first hill and add concrete. Wondering where you draw the line between 'increasing safety' and leaving things as they are.

Better to ask what I have not done.

Don't tell me what you are or are not doing. I'll tell you what you're doing because internet is serious business.

    :p

I know you weren't. But their claim is that they were in contact with BLM to do this maintenance. If they truly were, and were savvy, they'd squelch all this ire by simply posting the communication between them and BLM.

I did Elephant Hill with my friend in his stock 1990 Isuzu Amigo. That was fun.

    This exactly.
over the years, that concrete pour to prevent rollovers has been the only thing of it's kind and did what it was meant to do. It was also the easiest fix we have ever done for the FS...no committee's, environmental impact studies, etc.. just a quick meeting to see if the club was willing and a show of volunteer hands. No more rollovers. By the way, there was one death before all that took place, so it was justified.

Then I've seen times when the FS actually hires out a private contractor, and in the dead of night, in secrecy, they make entire trail altercations or close them down entirely.

Found another much used trail yesterday, in Pingree Park, that was closed down last year when nobody could see it while they worked on the tree mitigation. They were sneaky about it too, knocking down the trees, all in the same direction to make it look natural. Except it was just in the road.
And the grass that was planted, looks very much out of place as a green carpet that winds serenely down the hill, with the trees pushed over on it.
They did this for just over a mile, then the old road is still there, unchanged. Wonder what that cost.

So why do rollovers and a death justify making a trail 'safer'? These roads are dangerous, there's lots of chances for fatal accidents, and the risk is a lot of the reason we all enjoy them so much. It's a risk I assume when I'm using these trails.

If we made every dangerous obstacle safer it would take away a lot of the fun.

They don't, but when it happens consistently, then maybe it does. Beats having the entire trail closed, which is the other alternative.
