upon further inspection of this coolant leak my 03 v6 has been having,I found something very scary looking and Im starting to feel sick to my stomach :puke::confused:
when I took my skid plates off earlier this is what I found..
forgive me i haven't had this truck too long so I'm not 100%familiar with it, but it appears that each cylinder has one of these grommet things under them on the block, the coolant is leaking from the farthest back one on the right side of the block..
what do you guys think it could be? 20160913_182641.jpg 20160913_182540.jpg 20160913_182521.jpg

Looks like a freeze plugs is weeping. Not a terrible fix, just hard to get to.

That's what it looks like to me. They're not expensive but they are a pain. Buy a couple spares when you do it. If they don't pound in straight you can ruin them. They're only a few bucks but getting at them is horrible.

tho' it's possible it's leaking from the freeze plug.
It could simply be residual from changing the oil filter.
    Or a leaking valve cover.

Clean it up... then look to see if the leakage re-appears.
And not after an oil/filter change

On closer look is the leak coming from above the frost plug? Is it oil? Coolant?

Man, perfect opportunity to put a freeze plug block heater in there since it needs to be changed anyway!
Edit: just looked for your location, socal. Nevermind, you don't need it there. Unless you get up to the slopes.

There are rubber soft plug replacements that don't have to be pounded in, they expand by turning a bolt. I recall using those at least once and they worked (friend's truck however).

The one I remember right now was a V8 in an early 1960s International Travelall. Fine American vehicle, 8000 lbs gross weight, no power steering or power brakes. Legacy transfer case, had to be stopped to shift in or out of 4hi. Do not wrap your thumbs around the steering wheel. Ah the good old days.
