I've got 33's with 4.56's. At 75mph I'm about 2,700 RPM. Theoretically if I went up to 35's that would actually lower my RPMs (thereby, possibly, slightly improving fuel economy - though offset by tire weight increase).

All depends on how you drive I guess. My 33's on 3.73's made the truck feel like it was struggling. So I jumped to the 4.56's. Night and day difference. It doesn't lug now.

Not to thread jack but i thought 4.88s were optimal to return close-ish to stock on 35s?
Wouldn't be the first time my memory's failed me if i'm wrong..

Based on the online calculator I used (plus numerous inputs from TW members) the ideal gear ratios are:

    3.73: (Factory) 30-31" tires
    4.10: 33" tires
    4.56: 35" tires
    4.88: Larger tires

It's all about the revolution of the tire (diameter) calculated with the diff gear ratio, transmission gear ratios, etc. The calculator actually required you input the exact transmission part number and other technical details. Not even sure I could replicate it all without searching Google and TW all over again. Haha.

But with 33's and 4.56's I run higher engine RPMs than I ever did before. This is because I'm over-geared for my size tire. Switching from my 33" to 35" would actually reduce that over-gear situation and allow the engine to run lower RPMs (though the transmission would be faster, apparently). It would, theoretically, increase the vehicle's top speed as well since I'm RPM limited by the motor itself due to the over-gear in the diff.

Apparently there are more physics issues involve than simply the weight of the tire! Though I certainly won't claim to understand it all...

Yes I'm running 35s with 3.73 gearing. I have 6spd MT and it feels fine to me, I still can use 6th on the highway. Feels fine off road as well, maybe a bit fast in 4lo but haven't tested it much yet

Oh yeah... that's another benefit of higher gears! LOL With 33's and 4.56's my 4LO in 1st gear is awesome crawling down hill. Rarely touch the brakes! :D

I think it depends too on your rim/tire weight. I ran my 35 mtr's on stock FJ's for a while and my 2.7L auto with 4.56 gears was a dog. But once I picked up some Ray10's I got some power back, lucky the speed limit here is only 45mph otherwise I'd be screwed. And my personal experience with those federal tires was horrible, so loud and sucked offroad.

I so have 35 envy. LOL If my 33's weren't so dang new I'd find an excuse to upgrade. 35's just look better. ;)

Yeah there's that I suppose. But then I have to actually get the CMC done. LOL Been avoiding that since I can't do it myself (no tools, time, expertise). And then buying the tires. I'm trying not to spend right now.

Every morning before my daily shower......

Oh wait. My truck? No. I haven't. LOL I'd love to though. The truck stop/scale in Gateway south of Bozeman is never open. Wonder if they'd let me weigh the truck if they were open?

Hammer fire wall and pinch weld, possible spacers to clear ucas, more hammer, cut cm again, hammer more, then one day when you almost don't rub anywhere you will call it good

LOL Yes, semi-serious. I've got 33's because I didn't wanna have to modify too much under there.

Yeah, I get the idea that 35's will rub - period. But they look so good. And that extra inch of height/ground clearance can be huge. I just don't enjoy the idea of bashing and cutting/trimming crap. o_O
