Dead R150f?

Just bought an R150f from a 98 4Runner. Gonna start buying parts to replace the whole system

 

10K ago I bought a used R150F out of a 97 4-runner. Since I've had two manual trans act up in only 10k miles I'm thinking something else is going on. Unless they both have synchro and or bearing issues going on.

 

Hmm I don't like to hear that haha. I'm buying a used clutch pedal assembly because mine doesn't have the original spring anymore. Then buying an Aisin Master and Slave. Then an OEM clutch kit and flywheel, but I may buy the LCE kit.

I will - I'm done throwing parts at it. I replaced everything in the system. All new fluids, the shifter bushing kit etc. The only thing I didn't replace was the master cylinder but it seems fine and the clutch feels normal.

 

I won't be ready to swap transmissions until I get a few more paychecks, so I definitely will be looking for your response haha

 

Reading online about installing a clutch backwards, my symptoms sound pretty similar. I'm thinking theoretically, my clutch was installed backwards, and then when the second one was put in, they followed the exact same setup. Replaced things how they were before kind of deal. However, shoving it into gear repeatedly over the last 40k miles definitely will result in internal damage. So I'm still pretty confident that replacing the transmission, the clutch, and any other components will solve my problem.

 

you know, I'm hoping it's something as simple as a backwards clutch. A buddy and I put the Marlin crawler kit in and to us it looked like there was only one way the fingers could grab the flywheel. Assuming that's what you mean by backwards. She's been in the shop for an hour so far so I will not know anything until later. I will post as soon as I know something

Yeah when my clutch was installed backwards it started to feel out of whack within a few days, in 2 weeks it was nearly toast. If you go with a performance clutch kit, be sure the shop you take it to (if you take it to one) is familiar with performance clutches. I was told by the shop that had to replace the backwards one that the performance ones go in differently so a shop that isnt familiar might put it in backwards. Lucky me

 

And the culprit is a small bolt that holds the shift fork to the 2nd gear shift rod. My synchros, bearings and input shaft are all pretty used so since it's apart I'm gonna have them replace.

One thing the guy at the transmission shop said is that it looks like my trans has been opened up before. I wonder if they replaced the shift fork and tightened that down to much. I can just wonder. Now - I will have a new transmission!

 

hopefully it didn't set you back too much. When I had Toyota replace the backwards clutch and f***ed up flywheel that a previous shop did to my truck, it cost me $2k

Transmission work is not for the faint of heart or light of wallet

 

I've already came to the conclusion that it's going to cost me around $2000. I hope when he gets me all the numbers it will be a little under. Had to take out a small personal loan to cover the fix! dammit

 

I bought this R150f for $200, transfer case and all. With an LCE clutch and $480 in labor to swap, I'm still looking at $1500.

 

Got the bill for complete rebuild (all new bearing, synchros and a new input shaft) I also brought in my driveline with U-Joints I bought and the center support bearing for the driveline. All parts and labor come to $2212.41 before tax. Big bill but it's better than getting another vehicle and spending money on something else I suppose.

 

That's a screaming deal on the trans and tcase, nice find!
