    Suggestions for waders?
Dad's always gone with the cheap-o hip waders but they are complete crap. He can't even make it through one summer without springing a leak. I've got him talked into trying real waders - figure in the long run the cost difference will even out if the more expensive ones last him a few years. Not sure if he'd prefer the full bib type or the pants type. And not sure what boots would be best...
Simms is local to me so I'll be eyeing their clearance sales here soon...

The same shit everyone else has.
I started off with rubber hip boots. Junk, like you said. Then went to a pair of Cabelas stocking foot waders. Also junk. Then went to Orvis Silversonics. Better, but still crap. 3 pairs in less than a year. All sprung leaks around the booty seams. Currently fighting with them to return them and get my 250$ back. I finally gave in and bought Simms G3s a while back, havent looked back since.

I wish I woulda just started out with the Simms like everyone told me to.

Definitely Simms. I've had mine for 3 years now I think. That's probably close to 300 trips. No issues yet.

A bit of advice that was given to me and Ill pass along.

Dont buy a kit. Buy the supplies to tie patterns you fish. That way, you dont end up with a buncha stuff you'll never use.

I told her to go to the fly shop and then I told the guy that owns the shop (he's a friend) to hook her up with what I need.

Fly tying Kits are kinda nice if you are on a budget and you aren't sure if you'll like it. If it's something you are passionate about doing I would just buy nicer tools. The extra material is kinda cool to have when you are just messing around making wild streamers and such.

I taught golf for 20 + years and now only teach my three sons. I find that in golf and fly fishing people really want to rush to the forward part of the swing/cast. Finish your back swing/ cast and feel the golf club/ fly rod load, then let her rip.
Lefty Kreh has some great videos and even an app that you can download.

If you start tying flies, road kill is a great source of material. Same with you or your friends that hunt. Hit them up for the leftovers and salt the pelts in a brown bag for a couple weeks. You'll save a ton on material.

Haven't gone so far as to haul road kill home but I'll pick up random feathers I find. Got some cool blue ones from a stellar jay for dad to use

This...along with gamebird & waterfowl skins. I use borax to preserve.

I don't tie, but I mostly buy locally and get flies from buddies I give the skins to.

My curious pup eyeballing some ruffed grouse skins.

For sure! Borax works great for preserving hides. I did a few squirrels and a couple sections of deer last year and Ive been using them since with good results

Just back from Fall River. Very difficult fishing. No monster days. Biggest fish was 19 inches. Wifey got that one. I matched that on the third day, but that was the only fish I landed that day. Like I said, difficult fishing.

Tried real hard to get a shot of the flies that were the most prolific during our trip. In three days there was very little in the way of dry fly action, but I managed to get one fish against all suggestions that I was wasting my time.

Oh, and fish were caught. My spouse even landed a fat 19 inch rainbow. Doesn't look that big in our friends hands, though.
