Typical definitions of what my truck is worth in trade (YMMV):

Seller: what the Internet says says when I over estimate the condition of my truck and ignore all problems, plus more for whatever I think my add on options are worth in spite of the fact that they don't factor into trade in value, plus whatever I feel like makes me whole because I financed almost all the cost of the truck instead of paying cash for something I could afford. Oh, plus a bit more because I am awesome and, well, I want it to be so.
Dealer: Case 1: What KBB says minus a contingency for stuff that is wrong that the seller is hiding (why else trade in such a low mileage truck?), minus more so I can make up for the lowball offer on the new truck that I gave because I know most people want to squeeze me on that end and I have to make money somewhere. Case 2: What KBB says, and since I didn't get squeezed too badly on the new truck I am fine with that. Case 3... What KBB says minus as much as I can get away with because I think this guy wants this truck so bad he can't see straight and I can make lots of money on both ends.

Dealer: NEVER: What I think I can sell it for minus a couple of bucks, after all I'm making $500 on the new truck, and I'm in business to make others feel good.

    .

IIRC ... SET (SouthEast Toyota) has about 175 dealers in 5 states FL, GA, AL, SC & NC ... but, you can escape to TN and sometimes get a better deal.

In the the old days (about 1980), a NC dealer sued and put the fire under SET for making them & other dealers buy $40.00 hood ornaments on Camrys and/or Corollas ... but SET finally broke their back and now has an "IRON FIST" agreement with Toyota and the SE USA dealers.

SET negotiated their original agreement with Japan before Toyota was popular too and they have an unbelievable tight contract that Toyota has tried to buy back many times. SET makes a ton of $$$ on the businesses that are tangent to Toyota too ... i.e., vehicle add on options, financing, insurances, warranties & etc.

You did it! @4RNR! It looks great man. I'm like 1 day from closing on a 2013 F150 FX4 with luxury package interior. 45XXX miles certified for 33K. I'm still negotiating but still a great price for the truck. It even has a leveling kit on it and aggressive tires! :) Oh and 3.5 ecoboost

...^^^... OP ...I wish you the best on your trade and hope you don't have buyer's remorse later down the road.

With that said ... I am guessing that the Ford dealer is liking your truck very much ... with 37,000 less miles ... and 3 years younger than their F-150 ... and you have a Tacoma brand that many people want.

This is irregardless of any issues on your Tacoma or the dealer's F-150.

Good luck OP and hope it works out for you.

I don't remember the exact MSRP on my sticker and I can't seem to find my paperwork tonight, but I recall that it was about 2,000 less than sticker, at a time when most dealerships were still charging close to MSRP. Mine is an extended cab TRD OR with tech package and tow package, so that gives you an idea of cost and sticker price. And they didn't charge any doc fees ... just tax, tags, and title so I figure I saved another 500 or so compared to most other places that charge a doc fee. They also extend the bumper to bumper coverage on all new car sales to 4 yr/50000 miles, and a lifetime powertrain guarantee for the original owner. I thought it was a pretty good deal, especially since I didn't have to haggle at all!

I almost hesitate to say the dealership name because I'm sure that someone will post that they had a terrible experience with them, but my experience was great! It is Jim Barkley Toyota in Asheville, NC.

i have since that post found a bunch of better trucks( with fewer miles) I'm gonna either keep negotiating or pick the lower mileage trucks. Still certified ones though obviously. I do thank you however for wishing me luck. I love the way the ecoboost engine drives man. It actually make a 3.5 liter V6 feel like it has some nuts to it!

Oh trust me I really don't need to try again. I find it absolutely laughable that you think your Tacoma is worth more than 33,500 on a trade in, even with the decal. LMAO

:argue: What a low ball offer..... I mean it still has a factory warranty, the tires are practically new, frame yet to rust, leaf springs yet to crack, wheel bearings yet to wear, a/c fan yet to squeak, and I bet the new truck smell has yet to dissipate. This should at least bring in $33,500.99 cash, credit, debit, or IOU. I would have demanded to speak to the president with such a lowball offer...... and if Obama wasn't available, Biden better be.

Listen, negotiating is not about how much something is worth, it's about what you can leverage, and the tailgate decal puts the truck over the top

    I can almost buy a 16 ecoboost for that. Personally I wouldn't ever pay over $30k for a 09-14.
