    There's two relays, a fuse and a pretty nice harness. Power wire from batter to relays, ground to the factory ground bolt to battery. Factory harness just provided power to the relays to click the ignitor/ballasts on.

    It's not the harness. It would be the ballast or the ignitor shorting out if that's the actual cause

    Guess I'll need to find a better place or way to mount the ballasts

    also, salt water is a different animal. It is a decent conductor of electricity, where rain water is not. A little salt spray can short things to ground quite easily, and once it dries, things go back to normal (although you might have a little salt deposit left behind that might become a conductor once again if it gets wet/damp...

    Doesn't matter if the seals are screwed on them water is gonna find its way in. Either buy a new set you get them apart and silicone them or something

    I'm glad you found your problem OP. I have Morimoto XB35's on my Tundra so now I'm curious, were the ballasts ever submerged from a wave, etc? Did you spray the ballasts and relays directly with the pressure washer?

    After getting truck wet it would go into limp. 14k in "fix its" and it was still broken. Boiled down to stupid aftermarket lighting.

    I'm hoping someone can explain this. I'm no Tech but I would assume they could cause a short, drain a battery, blow a fuse, cause bulb errors if the vehicle is equipped with a CANBUS system, but to make the truck go into limp mode seems wild. Not saying I don't believe it, just shocked.

    We ran into this years ago on certain models of cars. The HID ballast would emit a certain magnetic frequency that played havoc with the ECM and wires leading to it. I haven't really looked where the ECM is located in the Tacoma.

    Did any water come out of the relay box when you shake it? I would assume that their relay box would be sealed decently.



    I'm willing to bet it's more along this line of magnetic noise being produced from the ballasts.



    Did you have the ballasts mounted near any of the bigger wiring harnesses?

    I just looked into this more because it baffles my mind, looks like when ballasts are mounted very close to ECM's or touching metal like AC lines, there could be interference that confuses the ECM.

    Never heard of this until tonight. Thanks @sean266 for bringing this up on Tundras.
