What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

I drove up a road at 3 this afternoon, not even all the way up it, hiked up a freakin mountain looking for elk, decided to head down before the weather got bad (hailed the last 1/2 mile) about 1/4 mile from the truck I run into the guy, don't talk to him, just continue on my way. Get to the truck, hails stopped, decide to let a bugle out. Get a response from 2 directions, one I from I figured and now know was the dude and another from what had to be an elk. Keep calling, move off the road, end up calling this dude to the road at dark, get my yelled at becaus I didn't drive a fourwheeler I didn't have up there instead. I wasn't the only truck up there either so. I also beat the guy up there by at least a few hours.

 

Sounds like they're just pissy you were hunting "their spot". But IDK maybe I'm wrong

 

I did get the (hunted this mountain for 25 years).

 

Then that guy was just pissed that he thought you were an elk lol...and he was just looking for an excuse to kick your ass cuz he was pissed at you and you having a truck up there instead of a four wheeler was a good enough excuse lol what a dumbass.

 

The guy sounded like he was bugling through a flute, I had my primos alpha dog, which is totally legal. I don't know how to bugle....

 

That's okay we all learn lol...I just bugle with a diaphragm and my primos tube witht he little blue read on the end. I can make the real grunty sound better that way

Back to tire for a minute, I can get 4 (four), studded Cooper St Maxx's that are 31x10.50x15, for around 140$ a tire. They are used but basically brand new. They'd still be cover under warranty and all that good stuff. I'm thinkin I'm gonna go for it? Opinions?

 

They will be noisy as shit with the studs in them and 31's are gonna look tiny as hell. Any chance in 32's and you really don't need studs with these tires...

 

Replaced the bearing in my A/C tensioner pulley bearing with an Amazon Nachi. The early ones are servicable while the later ones aren't so much.

 

Not at that price, just for the winter.

 

Well then go for those if you're only using them as winter tires

 

FWIW, I'm running studs in my ST Maxxs, and they're not loud at all. Sure you hear a little clicking, but the tread dominates what little sound they make. They're actually relatively quiet.

 

Does CO allow you to run studded tires year round? They don't allow that here (Wa). Nov-thru April only IIRC.

 

I hate that sound they make, all of the roads in Cheney are ruined from overuse of studs past the allowed dates.

 

As far as I know. There are more than a few coworkers of mine that have studs on year round, including a good friend running the ST Maxx.

I don't feel too bad about it because my truck isn't my daily, and again, the tires are pretty quiet for being an aggressive all-terrain. For me, it's a little bit of insurance, because the black ice here can be really nasty.

 

What advantages/disadvantages do studs have over chains?

 

You don't have to spend 30 minutes cussing up a storm while putting them on..

And you can drive at speed too. Or faster anyways. Chains you can't go very fast.
