If you're worried about fuel mileage, buy a highway tread P-car tire. If you want to use it like a truck, buy E rated.

The appropriate tire really depends on use both on and off road. Another tire to consider may be the Toyo Open Country A/T II, which also comes in C and P in 1" over stock size 265/75R16. Sidewalls are not as great as the KO2, but that is going to be hard to beat in the AT category.

Different E rated tires give different results. Rolling resistance determines economy just as much as the weight of the tire.

The rule of thumb is if the tire is noisy, it has high resistance, and the friction from the resistance is creating noise, and robbing power. Big lugs and crisscross patterns rob power.

M/T tires are famous of this.

A/T tires are hit and miss

    Quiet, decent milage A/T

    Noisy, bad mileage A/T

and H/T tires are designed to handle load while providing good mileage.

Since truck is your daily driver, I would try to stay C-rated. If you jump to a 17 inch wheel, you can get a BFG in c-rating. May want to check out the Copper Discover AT/3 as well and Falken Wildpeak. I am considering all of these.

Check the sale sections- people are dumping their stock OR rims and tires like crazy. You could pick up a set, dismount the Goodyears and keep those as a spare set, mount an aggressive M/T trail tire to those 16's. You'd be pretty far ahead on the $$ game.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
Are you saying Duratracs are noisy and give bad mileage?

Never had an issue with either. I'm switching from C to E load on mine ...but on my 1st gen Tundra

Yup, these are the tires im looking at for my SR 4banger, AT3's and the new Wildpeaks, both I believe are 4 PLY tires... load range SL. I think theyd be fine for me, mostly road driving, occasional off road, little to no towing planned. Good price on them too w/ gift card rebates going on right now

    Workin' on it....
I've been happy with my 265 75r16 duratracs (C load) and have not noticed any balancing or out of round issues (which I get the impression were more common in E load).

If KO2's came in 16s with C rating I may have gone that route but so far quite happy and I don't find the Duratracs too loud at all.

For me personally, the power and mpg hit of E load tires were not worth it.

Running e rated toyos here. Worth every mpg drop. When you air them down they are pretty much indestructible.

Really not much of a difference depending on tire. You can find stats here- 265/75/16
    Duratrac C load- 45lbs 31.7" dia
    ST/Maxx E load- 49lbs 32.01" dia

I think that it has been found that the cooper st maxx is actually a bit heavier than tire sites list. Cooper doesn't even list the weight of their tires on their own site. There is a thread in the 2nd gen for the ST maxx and I think someone called cooper and found that a 265/75/16 E is actually something like 54 lbs. I think I would only trust weight specs listed by the mfg.

I have Cooper ST/Maxx 265/70/17 E rated. For shits and giggles I weighed them with the TRD Pro wheels- right at 75-76lbs per unit. TRD Pro's are around around 25lbs each, so the tires are 50-51lbs each. Or there about.

Definitely a stiffer tire. FYI- my tires dealer provided a detailed printout of 3 tires I was looking at- the ST/Maxx, the STT Pro, and the Hankook M/T. Each one had the weights listed. They've got the data. Don't know why Cooper doesn't put it in their charts..

For more shits and giggles I'll grab the scale and weigh the OR stock wheels and Goofyears and see what they weigh.

Baja comes standard with BFG ATs in 265/70/16. I get 20 - 20.5 running 70 - 75 mph on hwy. These are D loads and weight 49 lbs per. Toyota recommends 46 lbs in them and that is where I have been running them until recently. PSI will make a difference in your MPGs. I have a set of Cooper ST Maxx's in a 265/75 ready to go on in a couple of months. Weight is the same as the BFGs. I do expect a slight drop in MPGs because Discount Tire recommends 35 lbs.
