Amazing difference with URD one....look in FS section, someone has one for 60.00......nevermind, dude had 2 threads for same SS, one for 75.00 and then made another for 60.00 but it says sold and it was for 5 spd, sorry.

I have a TRD SS too, it made a world of difference! Not really any additional shifting effort required for gears 1-6 but reverse is a bit more of a struggle. Take the first 1.5" of play out of the clutch pedal too and the entire driving experience goes up a few notches!

I've been seeing more and more posts about reverse becoming a bit of a pain :(. How bad is it?

Check my build thread...too much to list.
It's not that bad. Takes a bit more effort but still worth it IMO.

Can someone describe why the shortshifter is so much better, & why mpg improves.

It cleans up the throws, It reduces the chances of getting lost while rowing through the gears and takes less time in between shifts.

For the reverse issue noted above... I didn't notice it getting anymore difficult on my truck, However on my friends truck it is harder to get into reverse.

We both have a URD shifter, but the difference is our knobs... He has a long thin OBX knob and I have the TRD ball knob, With each knob we have to hold them differently and it's just enough more uncomfortable to use the extra force to get it into reverse as opposed to a ball in my hand.

How does one take the first 1.5" of play out of the clutch? I despise the clutch on my 13 TRD Sport. When I took it into Toyota they said it was "self adjusting" and that was the way it was.

As for "How hard is it to put into reverse with the SS installed? Honestly, it is so minor that I can't even imagine someone actually complain about it. There has to be SOME trade-off for the shorter throw. You give the shifter a little knock and in it goes. It is less than a non issue for me. I can't speak for the URD but that's how it is for the TRD.

You can remove the "fudge" from the pedal by putting some spacers on the front stop of the pedal. It's a little green plastic bushing attached to the pedal. I just added some hard plastic to the green bushing so the pedal doesn't come as far forward just be careful not to put in so much you end up riding the clutch. When you push the pedal it's pretty obvious what's "fudge" and what is actually engaging the clutch. You can see it pretty easily by looking at the back of the clutch pedal. It's not real fancy, but it gets the job done. I also added just a little to the pedal thickness too so the clutch is easier to press to the floor. (I have kinda stumpy legs :anonymous:)

I ordered one this week and it'll be delivered tomorrow. You can find them just under $300 delivered with a Google search on the part number (I used PTR04-35052). Looks like I got a weekend project...

Does this shifter literally change the fulcrum point of the shift mechanism, or is it just a shorter handle? Or is it a combination?

I installed my TRD kit over the weekend and changes the fulcrum point by about 3/4" (higher). This equated to about 1 5/8" shorter overall throw. I didn't measure the shift ball height but it feels about the same. So far in two days driving, I noticed that the third gear synchro bump grind has gone away. The shifter has a tighter, notchy feel with positive engagement. Reverse is a bit harder but not too bad at all.
