Yeah, I would definitely tell someone to get a t-case skid at the very least. The stock front skid does it's job, although it gets trashed pretty quickly.

Interesting points Greg. I've definitely come down on some under belly stuff more times than coming close to needing sliders. I guess the price is the difference maker for me, but If I do destroy something on the belly it'll be a lot more pricy than a few hundred bucks. Maybe I'll go with at least a t case skid first now

All armor serves a purpose, I think it is easier to avoid damage to the undercarriage vs the rocker panels by picking the proper line. Nothing beats full armor, but in terms of install order I think sliders serve a more valuable puropose being that it's more common to use those vs the skids. Obviously avoid any trails that are going to require skids because then you're asking for trouble

My front skid has definitely taking a beating. Definitely want to get a t case skid now. Ill have to look in to what works with the stock skid

The t-case skid is independent of the stock front skid, if anything it'll work in conjunction with a transmission skid so it may be best to get those two from the same manufacturer.

At least from a first gen Taco perspective, Im not familiar with how it's all laid out under a 3rd gen but I imagine it's similar

Very true. When it comes to the skids toward the center/front it's best to try and use em from the same manufacturer. Easier to just connect the dots that way but mods can always be made to holes if needed.

Thinking back to jacoby canyon where @4x4Banger and @downhillbik3r we're getting a little worried at the large rock being they don't have sliders. Pretty sure @MADSTEEZE got very close to his. You used yours flying up and down that last section towards the end of the day. Skids wern't needed that day, but I'm sure there's plenty of trails and situations where the opposite happens too.

huh, interesting....on the 1st gens the t-case is on the driver's side toward the end of the transmission if I recall, I'll have to get under my truck later and double check. It's definitely independent of any of the suspension components, dunno why there'd be any connection to the IFS. Seems like that'd be a strange place for the t-case to be unless I'm missing something

My argument: Have sliders for the rocker panels, and then have a crapton of clearance for everything else.

I think the problem for the 2nd and 3rd gens is a lot of these manufacturers make it so that the transmission skid requires the IFS skid for mounting. and the transfer case skid requires the transmission skid. They all bolt to one another.

This is true. And if you're 2wd, you're missing a crossmember so most mid-skids don't work.

Ah, good call. That makes sense....mine's really simple, it's just a plate that attaches to both sides of the frame and goes across the t-case/rear of the transmission

That's a pic off of Skidrow's website by the way, my frame is immaculate and free of rust ;) I also don't have their transmission skid....yet

I didn't even think of that. Just looked at All Pro and they specifiy it wont fit our prerunners or 4cyl. Looked at RCI next and they say "all 2nd gen tacomas" hmmmmm....

A good spotter is clutch. They're not always available and putting trust in strangers is hard.

And yes my trail limo isn't something just anyone can handle. Its taken me a fair amount of practice to get used to it. But now with the high clearance I feel spoiled. Haha

33s will be a bit too big for me unfortunately. Trying to avoid any trimming for now.
I think this ^ exactly was the issue. it needed the IFS skid to mount the t case skid. I'll have to look in to it more though and find out.
