As Promised I won't give away the details but I've yet to see a better price as that deal was Absolutely . . .

 

Obviously stronger than plastic and durable enough but they are built for the moderate overlander or offroader who wants a little extra protection. They dont hold a candle to steel in terms of strength though.

 

you gotta think strength to weight tho. I personally would rather keep overall vehicle weight down and maybe sacrifice a little bit of strength, and 1/4" aluminum isn't going to just fold on impact. Its pretty strong in its own right. Take a look at my lower skid on the 08, that thing is totally hammered after years of abuse but its served its purpose. I've bent the 1" .120 wall subframe behind it too.

 

In a crash, Aluminum is meant to take the impact, Steel is meant to be the impact haha

 

I won't disagree with your arguements. Both very valid points. I agree with the weight deal. I will go aluminum on my last 2 skids as I never hit there anyway and want to save a little weight. I was just trying to get him to buy a bumper.

Absolutely steel is stronger.. I dont think Bumpers make the Driver tho, just sayin. aluminum, steel, plastic, platinofucksgivenium.. if you need to depend on your heavy ass Steel bumpers to wheel, or that is what defines you as a wheeler, because you have the heaviest, manliest, beefiest bumper in case you smash into shit, you're doing it wrong imo. I dont want to have to use my bumpers, factory or aftermarket.

I want aluminum for many reasons and they yield the same amount of clearance. I'm not going to be running into shit all the time, that's opposite of what we are trying to do when wheeling. Pick good lines, like I said above. even then, at 1/4" thick.. I think I would be ok. but.. probably not even going to get bumpers to be honest. not for a looong time anyways.

I will tho, continue to drool over every one I see.. especially 3 hoops...

Hi all - Yep, newbster here and I can't post in the B/S/T forum. (I guess I need 50 posts?) That said, I wanted to see if there was any TW local interest before I pop them on Craigslist. I'm local to East Valley - AZ for pick up or I can meet whatever works. Thanks for taking a look.

 

I got a pelican 1690 case with some spray paint on it and no foam inserts. Wheels, clasps, and handle work great.

Intended on using it as a camp box. Never got around to it.

$100 and I'll bring it up next weekend to PHX when I come up for the concert.

 

Why didnt you end up using it as a camp box?
