Received a call today from a sales rep at my local dealership in Tucson asking if I wanted to sell my truck back to them. Stated that a customer is looking to purchase a truck like the one I own (2016 OR DCSB Blue). He said the he would pay me above market value for it. I purchased the truck in June of this year. Is this a common practice among dealers to sell their customers a truck and then 3 months later buy it back from them??

It's a normal sales technique/practice but I've never heard of them doing it that early into someone's ownership, lol. They probably don't even check, they just print out a list of names/numbers and start calling.

That is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Just a ploy to try and get you to trade up to a '17 probably. Biz must be slow in Tucson.

I'm in the tire business and was talking to a used car dealer today. He told me that used tacomas are the gold bars of the used car business. He told me they are NEVER found cheap and harder just to get.

I get letters like that in FL all the time. They offer to buy the cars that I owned back in 2009, but don't own anymore.
It's simply to get you in and start the sales pressure game. Don't fall for it.

It might not be a scam. Couple years ago I leased a Honda Pilot. Dealer called and said they wanted it. I thought it was a scam too, but asked if they had any trade in Wranglers on the lot. They did so I went in and sat down to talk. It started as a typical sales negotiation, so I walked out, telling them if you want my Pilot, YOU tell me what you will give me. They called the next day. I wound up getting my lease bought out, and the a one year old JK Wrangler with 14k on it for about 20 grand OTD. No negotiating. I was pretty happy. I still have the JK for the weekends.

The sales tactic works. That's why they do it.

Yup Ram dealers use this tactic all the time. And your right. It works. A friend of mine actually walked into a new 17 recently for 2k with his trade. Not a terrible deal seeing as domestics don't hold their value.

Maybe. But in my case it worked for me. Or likely both of us. With 18 months left on the lease at 500 something a month I was glad to see the Pilot go. I put that money towards something I now own. And I got a smoking deal on the JK.
